What’s for lunch?

Hi everyone! This is Jacq bringing you today’s sweet shoppe post. My eldest daughter will be in elementary school next year thus she needs to bring lunch at school. So now I am doing lots of research online on how to prepare easy and appetizing lunch for her, she is a picky eater so making something I know she will eat at school is important. I want to start making them now to see what works and what doesn’t so come next year I won’t be fumbling with supplies and food while I try to do other things such as preparing her school things and making sure we reach the school on time.
The first thing I did was to go to Pinterest for ideas and inspiration, and I found a few sites which has pictures of those bento type luncbox sets and I knew I wanted to try to make my own. Making food look fun and interesting seem to be a way to make my picky eater eat more. So I went to Daiso (a japanese store that sells everything for $2 each) and bought some supplies. I was quite happy to find a lot of items I can use for my little project at the store, it is afterall a japanese store. Here’s what I got…
I was so happy with what I bought. The store was really a goldmine for those who want to stock up on their lunch making supplies, I had to restrain myself from buying more items and stick to what I needed. So the next day I was eager to get to work on my first lunchbox meal for my little girl, here’s what I came up with…
It is very basic but I’m proud of my first attempt. I used my bear rice shaper (sorry I don’t know exactly what it’s called but it’s used for rice) to cut up the cheese sandwiches then hold them together with the food picks, after that I used the silicone muffin holders to put rainbow goldfish and raisins on the side. Pretty simple isn’t? My daughter really loved it, I think the bear shaped sandwiches did her in. I made other variations the following day…
I was really glad my lunch making project was a success, I will practice more and try to add on more items and be more creative with food presentation. I will also find a good lunchbox that is leak proof and probably buy more supplies. ‘Til next time!
