Spotlight Sunday- Zakirah Zakaria (SugarBabe Edition)

ss-header-2014

Hi everyone! I’m Zakirah Zakaria from Malaysia.

I’m 26 years old, single and child-less, so the kids in my photos & scrapbooks are my nephews and nieces. I don’t really feel comfortable taking selfies and don’t take a lot of them, unless I really have to (like for profile pics & tracking my moods). I’m also a shy person, so the only time I feel comfortable taking pictures of myself is when I have my family in the frame too.

I can’t just pick four, but since I have to, I’d go with the latest ones that I really love.
  1. Let’s Play!: I’m a paper addict and love layering papers, and this page shows it. The layout design was inspired by this sketch from CreativeScrappers and I used A Happy Family: Playing Together by Traci Reed & Shawna Clingerman.
  2. My Guy: I love the photo of my nephew, Fawwaz, smiling so sweetly. When Shawna created He’s All That & He’s Handsome add-on, I knew it’s perfect for the photo. The papers & embellishments in the kit are awesome I wanted to place ALL of them on the page! I also used Cindy’s Set 163 template.
  3. Lil’ Cupcake: I really love the Ain’t Life Sweet kit by Jenn Barrette because there’s so many beautiful patterned papers in it! And Zoliofrope’s Lancaster template template was perfect to showcase them, hence this page was born.
  4. Toy X-Change: The new Inspiration Corner is really a great place for inspiration! For this layout, I was inspired by this beautiful layout by Janelle (NellahBean). I used Zoe Pearn’s Neon Crush kit.

  1. Paint Washed Alpha by Kristin Cronin-Barrow: I love this alpha because it’s very easy to customize it. I used it on this page for Think Outside The Box challenge.
  2. Boy Wonder by Shawna Clingerman: I think this is a must-have kit if you have boys! There’s tons of great papers & embellishments in this kit and I just love scrapping with it.
  3. Torn Frames #1 by Ju Kneipp: This torn frames pack is great for adding realism on your page. It’s very easy to use too.
  4. Background Noise: Watercolors by Jenn Barrette: I’m into Art Journaling lately and have been adding brushes into my stash. These watercolor brushes by Jenn Barrette is the one that I find myself using again and again.

  1. Terengganu: This is my hometown! I’m from Besut, Terengganu – a small village which is located nearby a few islands, like Pulau Perhentian (one of my favorite vacation spot).
  2. Negeri Sembilan: I studied at a boarding school in Labu, Negeri Sembilan from 2000-2005. That photo is the place where we’d gather every morning on weekdays before heading to our classes. Photo credit: http://asmaddini.blogspot.com
  3. Kuala Lumpur: My brothers and sisters moved to Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur in the late 1990’s (I think 1998). I still go to KL once in a while for shopping. My favorite malls are Mid Valley & KLCC.
  4. Cyberjaya: This is where we’re staying now since I was 18 or 19 (I’m very bad at remembering dates!). Our house is located next to a man-made lake.

  1. Once Upon a Time: I started watching since the first season, and my favorite villain ever is the Evil Queen, Regina. I even scrapped a page about it!
  2. Major Crimes: I loved The Closer, and Major Crimes is even better. It’s a different kind of police procedural drama (in my opinion). My favorite character is Lt. Provenza.
  3. Perception: This is where neuroscience meets crime. I love Perception because it’s different than other crime drama that I also watch (like Major Crimes & Hannibal).
  4. Hannibal: A little bit like Perception, but Hannibal is where psychology meets crime. If you love watching how a twisted psychiatrist manipulated his patients into becoming serial killers, then this is the show to watch. Warning: contains scenes of human organs being cooked & served.

In my teens, I used to wear patterned shawls but as I get older, I’m leaning more towards solid shawls. There’s something about its simplicity that makes me fall in love with them.
  1. Color blocking has also hit the shawl industry, as you can see here. I’ve never tried this kind of shawls before, but intrigued I am. Photo credit: NurJannah Collection
  2. Some people love fancy styling of their headscarves, and I love seeing them! However, I’m bad at all this hijab styling. I’d watch a tutorial online and get stuck at the third step and then give up. Photo credit: Imaan Boutique
  3. Oh, how I love simple hijab styling! This is how I sometimes wear my headscarf. Simple, quick & ready to go. Photo credits: MiaSweetopia
  4. This is yet another shawl styling that I’d definitely fail at trying. It’s beautiful though, so I’ll keep dreaming of succeeding trying to achieve it. Photo credit: Shawl by vsnow

  • Thanks for sharing Zakirah.

When I started wearing hijab, I wanted to have printed ones and flowers too. But ever since I moved here in the Kingdom, black is the only thing I can wear hahaha!!!

  • Thanks Jhari! I love the black hijabs that Saudi women wear. I see that they’re sometimes have beads & other sparkly adornments on them. Very beautiful!
