4 in ’14 – Penny Springmann
Another Featured Designer Friday is here Sweet Shoppers, and this week we’re bringing you part two of Penny Springmann’s fun 4 in ’14 spotlight which is going to give you some insight into her favorite spaces, her favorite foods and MORE! I have been loving the chance to get to know our designers a little better words and pictures, and I hope you have been enjoying it too! Hey, everyone, it’s me, Penny. Picking these pictures made me realize I need to get in front of the camera more! The first and fourth pictures were taken by my eldest son one afternoon last summer, and even if the sun is a bit harsh in the corners, I adore that he was the photographer. The second picture is a selfie taken last summer as my husband and I headed off to Lollapalooza to celebrate my 40th birthday…eep! It was an amazing weekend celebrating with my sis and longtime friends. The third pic I shot this February. I think I look about 12 years old in it – so I won’t complain!
My favorite spaces are divided between spots in my house and outside. The two photo collages hang in my living room and basement. In high school my walls were decorated with posters of rock groups, cuties, etc. Now they are covered with images of family and friends. <3
The two outdoor shots are taken on our lot. It has always been our dream to build our own home, and two years ago we purchased a plot of land to make our dream come true. While we haven’t started building yet, It is still one of my favorite places. The first shot is of the creek. If you follow me on Instagram, then you know we are often down at the creek fishing or hanging out. The creek runs along the back of the lot and it’s fascinating to watch how it ebbs and flows during the year. The second shot is of my husband and Gary (had to sneak her in) walking the lot. When the weather is nice we often walk down to the lot in the evenings. Hopefully, we will begin planning and building our home sometime in the near future.
Even though, I don’t get to scrap as much as I once did, I still enjoy creating layouts when I get a chance. Here are four of my favorites:
1 – Family Rules – I scrapped this page in 2010 using a long since retired kit, Family Time. When I created the kit, I included the stamp on the left which is a copy of our family rules. Not only is it one of my favorite layouts, but it is also one of my favorite family pictures as well.
2. Love You – The second layout is of my youngest son on the beach. For this layout, I blended a photo of my son on the beach with a watercolor background and love stamp. I like how the movement of the watercolors on the paper mimic the way the waves flow.
3. Summer Lovin’ – This layout is also one of my most recent pages. I think this picture of the boys on the beach is perfect. The excitement/energy they had that day is conveyed through J’s running into the surf to catch the next wave. I used my two scoop with Jady Day Studio, Summer Lovin’ to create this page.
4. This last layout is also one of my more recent pages. I found an image on Pinterest and mimicked it to create this layout of my eldest son playing violin. I love the clean, graphic lines/colors of this page.
1. Hands down one of our most favorite foods around here is homemade ice cream! If you ask me, mint chocolate chip is best!
2. I’m a salad fan so when I discover a salad my husband also likes, it’s a winner! This Blue BBQ Chicken salad is a summer staple around here.
3. Wild Rice and Chicken Salad – It really doesn’t get much better than this. I think I might try making it with quinoa this summer as well.
4. Homemade Pretzels – Around here homemade pretzels are a snow day tradition. They are so yummy and pretty easy to make.
