Spotlight Sunday- Mary Larson (Community Member Edition)
This week we’re spotlighting Mary (maryinaz)!
Selfies – It takes some courage to take photos of yourself and post them for many to see. Way before Facebook or Instagram, scrapbookers were doing this to make sure they weren’t getting left out of the stories they were documenting for their families. The person behind the camera often is neglected or forgotten. Fast-forward to now with cell phones and social media, and selfies are easy and fun.
Layouts – I’m a longtime paper scrapper who went digital about 6 years ago thanks to my friend Libby Pritchett introducing me to Sweet Shoppe Designs. With digi-scrapping I’ve still kept my paper style and my layouts reflect that. The majority of my digital layouts contain multiple photos and rarely do I leave white space. I like clean lines and bold colors, although occasionally I will get artsy. With 4 boys, you won’t find me using much pink (Valentine’s Day is an exception!) or pastel colors, and very, very rarely a flower. My focus is always on the photos and 99% of my layouts contain journaling.
Products – Since I only have sons, sports have always been a big part of our lives. I love sport kits with strong colors and of course, boy kits are a must. Libby and Shawna fill those needs on a regular basis with their great styles. Some years I do calendars for family and I always look for Cindy’s great templates and quick pages to make it a much easier task. Libby’s clean stitching elements finish off my pages on a regular basis.
Current Interests – My life changed drastically in the spring when I went back to work full-time out of the house. For years, while raising the boys, I was employed, but worked out of our home. I love my new job and the whole family has adjusted quite well!
It’s fall, so in our house that means FOOTBALL!! I’m currently obsessed with my alma mater, Kansas State and the Wildcats. I’m also in a Fantasy Football league and own a team with a friend – we are the only female owners in our league. Our name? “You Just Lost to Girls”
And lastly, you’ll find me with earphones on most of the time. Ever since Amazon Prime Music came out, I’m at no loss for new music. My current obsession is the Maroon 5 album “V” – on constant repeat.
Quotes – I love quotes. I collect them on Pinterest, print and post them around my desk at work, and write them down as I hear them. I sometimes share them on social media, or include them on a layout. I love finding a quote that strikes me with something close to my heart. A couple of years ago, my son’s track coach read the quote “Prepare the child for the path, not the path for the child” at a parents meeting. Huh? I had been doing just the opposite with my boys! So that one sentence had a profound effect on me. Words can do that, if you pay attention.
