SugarBabe Sunday – 8/30

SugarBabeSunday-header-Jacq

We’ve added a fun, new weekly post during this summer! We’ve loved having the SugarBabes hang out with Stacia and I on the blog. :) Today’s is our VERY LAST one! :'( I’ve loved seeing what the SugarBabe’s write and am so thankful for all that they did for this weekly feature. Today we’re lucky to have Jacq sharing some fun ideas with keeping her kids entertained. Here she is!

We live in a small country called Singapore where the weather is practically summer all year long. We get to enjoy being outdoors all the time but during school breaks we do stay at home more and me & the girls do a lot of craft activities. Weekends are spent as a family when hubby is not working.

As a mom to two school going kids we have a stash of supplies on hand so we can have a fun afternoon doing arts and crafts when we want to. It also helps to have a healthy stash during the school year for those projects. We have just the basics I think but a little imagination can go a long way, my girls love being creative with the supplies they get. Our activities are not at all complicated, Pinterest of course has a lot of ideas and inspiration and it’s my go to site for sure. Often I pull out a few supplies and let my kids decide what they want to do.

Here’s one example of the girls doing something crafty one afternoon…

In honor of getting a fish tank for the girls they made their own fish using paper plates, punched out circles from colorful paper and glitter.

This was actually for a school project of my preschooler but still using the same supplies plus leftover party decorating materials…

Books are also a big part of our everyday especially during school breaks. I need for them to find something they can do on their own with little to no supervision from me. My eldest is a bookworm, her current favorite are Thea Stilton and Dork Diaries. She also finished book 4 of the Harry Potter series which I’m very pleased to share with her. My youngest is just learning her phonics so she loves picture books and short stories. I read to her most of the time but she also likes to flip through the pages and make up her own stories base on the illustrations. We are often in the library, we have one nearby and they love going there.

The girls loving the nooks and reading spaces in the kids section of the library…

On weekends we do more outdoor activities as a family. The girls love to go swimming and run around at the playground. We have season passes to Universal Studios as well so we go there for an afternoon of rides and character meetups, with kids it doesn’t get old. The zoo is another family favorite, although it is quite a long way from our home we go because the girls love seeing the animals.

I guess this pretty much sums up what we do during school break, I wouldn’t say summer break since we pretty much have the same weather all year. My kids have a hectic schedule during the school year so I really try to have relaxing and fuss free couple of weeks for them.
