Thursday Treats – International Literacy Day 9/08
It seems perfect that International Literacy Day coincides with the beginning of the school year, doesn’t it? All those eager little minds headed back into the big, wide world to soak up all the information they can, to grow and to know more each day. While all subjects are important, I think we can agree that reading is key. So many other things hinge on the ability to read and to comprehend, it is the stepping stone to their future education.
So whether you know a child that is just learning to read or one who always seems to have their nose in a book, I found a few kits in The Shoppe to help celebrate that love:
Today is the 50th International Literacy Day. Scholastic (a large children’s book publisher all over the world) has four tips to nourish a life-long reader:
- let them pick out the book themselves
- keep reading aloud to them
- be a good role model
- find things to make them laugh
