Somehow each of those one-syllable words became much longer than that due to the whine of the voice creating them. "How can you two possibly be bored? We've only been back from vacation for two days. Weren't you excited to get back to your friends and your toys and your books?" Lily answered for both of them. "Well, yes. But I've read all my books, played with all my toys and now there aren't any friends to play with since they're all busy. So now we're bored!" Lucas nodded in agreement. They were sitting at the kitchen table, waiting to be entertained. "Well," Mom said, "It's not my job to keep you entertained, but I bet we could find a few fun things around here to do." The morning newspaper was sitting in front of them, so scooted it across the table to Lily. "Look through there. See what events are coming up in town. Maybe we can go to a free concert, or a day at the museum. Just take a look. I'll be back in a little while after you've done some research." Lily flipped the pages, bored, scanning them but not really looking. Only the noise of the crinkling paper and her sighing filled up the silence. This seemed a pretty old-fashioned way of getting information, she thought. Lucas stood over her shoulder. She had just about turned the last page when Lucas' arm flashed in front of her, pointing at an article. "Look!" The title read "Staying in town this summer? Here are Ten Tips to Bust Boredom". How did those newspaper editors know exactly what Lily and Lucas were going to look for? This was the jackpot! Lily started reading parts of the article aloud, under her breath, but Lucas was impatient. "Speak up, Lily! What does it say?" "Well, they suggest things like storytime and reading events at the library, enjoying time at the city pool or in the fountains downtown, finding events like a circus or fair, visiting a local farm, or just taking crazy pictures at places around town." She put the paper down. "Those really are some great ideas. Let's see if Mom will help us make a list of our favorites." Then Lily frowned. "But now comes the hard part: what do we do first?"
