Hi Sweeties!<\/p>\n

It’s Libby again with a fun little idea that our family has implemented this summer.\u00a0 We like to do a lot of things as a family, but we found ourselves always struggling with who got to choose the movie or game.\u00a0 Or some of us would want to watch one thing while others of us didn’t want to see it at all.\u00a0 So, we’ve started “Me” night with our kids.\u00a0 Basically, each person in our family gets one night a week where they choose the night’s activity.\u00a0 The purpose is for us to get to share a little of our favorite things with our families.\u00a0 We are forced to branch out of our comfort zones and really get to know each other better.<\/p>\n

We do have a few rules.<\/p>\n

1. It can’t cost more than $1 per person.
\n2. It can’t be something that we have to eat.
\n3. It can’t take more than 2 hrs (unless we are all having fun and agree to continue).
\n4. Everyone has to participate.
\n5. No complaining!<\/p>\n

Other than that, the options are wide open!\u00a0 Here are a few of the ideas we’ve done so far.<\/p>\n

– Rent a Redbox movie (Gracie chose Alvin & The Chipmunks, I chose Joyful Noise)<\/p>\n

– Family Game Night (We’ve played SkipBo, Life, and Yahtzee so far)<\/p>\n

– XBox 360 golf night\u00a0 (we all created characters in Tiger Woods Golf and played 9 holes against each other)<\/p>\n

– Cooking class at the local Asian Market (it’s a free demonstration, and we learned to make stir fry noodles)<\/p>\n

– Watch something on Netflix (Rhys chose the old Weird Al movie UHF, Gracie chose Toddlers & Tiaras)<\/p>\n

– Play an online role-playing game (Jeff loves the game Tibia, so we all created characters and played)<\/p>\n

– For this coming week, I’m choosing to “make” the family watch one of my favorite movies of all-time… Sister Act 2!\u00a0 I’ve seriously seen this movie more times than I can count, but I absolutely love it.\u00a0 The music just makes me want to boogie.\u00a0 It’s the ultimate feel-good movie in my book, and my family has never seen it!\u00a0 So, I’m going to remedy that!\u00a0 I can’t wait!!<\/p>\n

Some other ideas that we’ve talked about that we haven’t actually done yet… playing Rock Band, Mario Kart, going to the water park at the YMCA, and going to the dollar movies.<\/p>\n

This has been a really fun thing for us this summer, and I’d love to encourage all of you to consider doing something similar with your families.\u00a0 It’s never too late to start spending time together!\u00a0 I’ll admit that I haven’t wanted to do some of the things we’ve done (ie the cooking class), but I ended up having a good time in the end.\u00a0 So, give it a shot and keep an open mind.\u00a0 You just might end up having more fun than you expected!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
