{"id":14108,"date":"2012-08-29T01:00:42","date_gmt":"2012-08-29T05:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/?p=14108"},"modified":"2012-08-28T13:00:47","modified_gmt":"2012-08-28T17:00:47","slug":"the-long-awaited-bathroom-remodel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/index.php\/2012\/08\/the-long-awaited-bathroom-remodel\/","title":{"rendered":"The Long-Awaited Bathroom Remodel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hi there Sweet Shoppers! \u00a0It&#8217;s Libby here today to share with you the project that has taken over my life for about the past 6 weeks or so. \u00a0Before I get to the pics, I have to give you a little background. \u00a0When Jeff and I first met, he already owned this house. \u00a0It&#8217;s an old home built in 1918, so the walls are all made of lath &amp; plaster as opposed to sheetrock. \u00a0If you&#8217;ve ever lived in an old home, you know how frustrating these plaster walls can be! \u00a0Anyway, there was a mold problem in the downstairs bathroom due to a leak in the upstairs bath. \u00a0So, Jeff&#8217;s dad came in from out of state, and they tore out all the lath &amp; plaster with plans to sheetrock in there. \u00a0This was in April 2010.<\/p>\n<p>We got married in November 2010 and had always planned to fix the bathroom sooner rather than later. \u00a0Well, as always happens, other more-pressing issues came up, and the bathroom kept getting pushed to the back burner. \u00a0It was ugly as could be, but it was functional. \u00a0It seemed that every time we&#8217;d have enough money saved to be able to fix it, something else would come up that required our immediate attention. \u00a0 Finally, after Chloe was born in February, we decided that we had to make it a priority. \u00a0I couldn&#8217;t imagine giving her a bath in there the way it was, so we saved up, got some estimates, and we were finally ready to roll!<\/p>\n<p>It turned into a much larger project than either of us had planned. \u00a0Our handyman did a fabulous job, but he was a one-man show. \u00a0So, he worked every day, 10-12 hours a day for 3 weeks. \u00a0Once his part was finished, Jeff still had some details that he had to take care of, too. \u00a0I&#8217;m happy to say though that after all this time, it&#8217;s finally finished!<\/p>\n<p>Here are some before and afters with details so you can fully appreciate the progress.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/bathroomcollage-before.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14109\" title=\"bathroomcollage-before\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/bathroomcollage-before.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"550\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/bathroomcollage-before.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/bathroomcollage-before-300x236.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/bathroomcollage-before-600x471.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div><strong>BEFORE:<\/strong><\/div>\n<p><div>1. \u00a0This was 2 1\/2 years ago when Jeff and his dad originally started tearing everything out. \u00a0Notice the lovely wallpaper and the beautiful vanity.<\/div>\n<p><div>2. \u00a0Another shot of the wallpaper. \u00a0This is a useless spot at the end of our tub. \u00a0The only thing we could put there was the\u00a0bathroom\u00a0scale.<\/div>\n<p><div>3. \u00a0This is our handyman Alfredo building the &#8220;curved&#8221; wall at the end of the bathtub<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><div>4. \u00a0A better shot of the wasted space and the edge of our curved bathtub.<\/div>\n<p><div>5. \u00a0Our toilet and vanity &#8211; this was taken mid-progress. \u00a0But this is what we lived with for 2 1\/2 years. \u00a0No sheetrock, mirror stuck up with a nail.<\/div>\n<p><div>6. \u00a0This is the wall with the light switch. \u00a0This is the back of a &#8220;cabinet&#8221; \u00a0that was also torn out. \u00a0The cabinet door is in the hallway. \u00a0So, from inside the\u00a0bathroom, you could just see this ugly shelf that turned into a &#8220;catch-all.&#8221;<\/div>\n<p><div>7. \u00a0And finally, this is our shower. \u00a0Yep, this is exactly what it looked like for the 2 1\/2 years. \u00a0Can you imagine my big pregnant body in this thing? \u00a0It was NOT comfortable or pleasant. \u00a0You couldn&#8217;t even turn around without bumping into the plastic that covered the walls.<\/div>\n<p><div>And now&#8230; the AFTER!!!<\/div>\n<p><div><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/bathroomcollage-after.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14110\" title=\"bathroomcollage-after\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/bathroomcollage-after.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"550\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/bathroomcollage-after.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/bathroomcollage-after-300x236.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/bathroomcollage-after-600x471.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><div><strong>AFTER:<\/strong><\/div>\n<p><div>I really wish I could just have you guys over to see it in person because it&#8217;s so hard to picture everything from these limited photos. \u00a0Very hard to get a good angle.<\/div>\n<p><div>1. \u00a0Vanity along with the new lights, fixtures, and window<\/div>\n<p><div>2. \u00a0Is it bad that I&#8217;m excited to have a toilet paper holder?
