I have a quick tutorial for you today on how to make your own stamps in Photoshop! It’s really easy, so I’ll get started straight away:

I’m going to make a stamped letter, but this works great with any shape. To get started, I type the letter I want on a text layer, in a font I think will look good as a stamp. Here I have used Darcy’s DJB Play Misty for Me font. When I have typed my letter, I hold down ctrl and click on the layer thumbnail in the layers palette. This will create those little marching ants all around the letter I made.I feathered my selection by 7 pixels to avoid a really clean outline, but you don’t need to do this, it depends on the look you prefer. If you want to feather your selection, go to Select – modify – feather, and type in the amount you want. Experiment with different numbers to find out what works best!

Now, this is the important bit; Make a new layer above the text layer, and make sure you are working on the new layer. Load a brush that will give a stamped effect, I am using one of the grunge brushes from Penny’s A Dirty Brush Bundle. Now stamp on top of your letter once, don’t paint, just click once. The marching ants will make sure that the brush only stamps right on top of the A. If your brush doesn’t cover the whole letter stamp again to cover the rest. If you want a heavier effect you can go over it again, or you can leave it as it is.

Now, turn off or delete your text layer, and you have a stamped letter!

Here I used the heart custom shape to make a heart stamp:

Experiment with different brushes for different looks.
