Well I certainly hope not! I find its a great time to reflect on the fun events the weekend presented to me and a time to attempt to get the house back in order after the manic weekend – yeah right! My house is never in order! But this has very little to do with todays Mix It Up challenge so I better get on with it!

A couple of weekends ago I spent some time with my sisters sorting through a few of my Mums treasures. She passed away just over 3 years ago and I guess none of us were really ready to unsettle her belongings (much to my Dads dissappointment!) It turned out to be a wonderful time spent reminiscing and discussing the items we knew she had cherished. I feel so blessed that we were able to do this together – its been something thats gnawing at each of us that we may not be able to agree on where things should go or who should receive particular personal items. In some cases we were at a loss as to why she had kept certain things for so long, where they had come from and why she treasured them. It made me think about what I would like to see happen with some of the things I treasure – many of these things aren’t itemised in wills and its often left to siblings to allocate them out. We hope they can do this amicably – I sure wouldn’t want any of my belongings to cause a rift between my daughters. Of course, I immediately thought of scrapping as a fabulous way of showcasing our treasures and to tell the stories behind them.

Our treasures may not be treasures because they have a high financial value. More likely they are treasures because of where they came from, who they belonged to or how we put them to use. Sounds like a good topic to scrap huh? I know I would have enjoyed reading about these things on this particular weekend. So I guess that sets the course for todays Mix it up challenge with a little meaning on the side! Since we have an abundance of galleries on the net filled with photos of people we love I thought it’d be fun to mix-it-up using inanimate or mechanical objects as our focal point. Maybe you have a prized vase, a special ring, an award of some nature, or a gift from someone you treasure. Take a little time to tell the story behind that treasure and then share it with us here.

My layout tells the story of my first (and still my only) sewing machine treasured because of where it came from and who gifted it to me. If you’d like to read the journaling just click on the LO to take you to the Sweet Shoppe Gallery. I used Christy Lyle’s Bohemian Mommy Kit along with some stitched fabric pieces by Amy Martin and Holly McCaigs All that Pops Action for the photo.

Another Manic Monday?
