{"id":7495,"date":"2011-07-13T01:00:18","date_gmt":"2011-07-13T05:00:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/?p=7495"},"modified":"2011-12-13T21:47:17","modified_gmt":"2011-12-14T02:47:17","slug":"365-days-of-bliss-a-hybrid-version-of-a-portfolio-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/index.php\/2011\/07\/365-days-of-bliss-a-hybrid-version-of-a-portfolio-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"365 Days of Bliss: A hybrid version of a Portfolio challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Hi!\u00a0 Sara (livelys) here today with a little hybridy idea to share.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I regularly use digital stamps in the cards I make, and there is an increasing number of them in the <a title=\"Digital stamps &amp; doodles in the SSD store\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/sweetshoppe\/home.php?cat=315\" target=\"_blank\">SSD store<\/a>.\u00a0 These stamps are great to use as the SSD designers have effectively made them into brushes \u2013 so when you add them to your card they have no background built in &amp; so are ready for you to colour &amp; customise to your hearts content.<\/p>\n<p>Jen Tapler\u00a0wrote a lovely tutorial blog post (<a title=\"Jen Tapler's blog post about using Copic markers\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/?p=4114\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>) describing how she uses her Copic pens to colour in stamps.\u00a0 I often use chalks for a hint of colour, though more frequently, I use digital papers \u2013 layering them behind the image &amp; then \u2018cutting\u2019 them out using the polygonal lasso tool in Photoshop.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve mentioned the ease of use of the digital stamps in the store \u2013 but I do have a collection of digi-stamps from other sources, lots of which unfortunately incorporate an annoyingly fixed white background.\u00a0 This again is easy (though a little fiddly) to overcome, using that very useful lasso tool again \u2013 effectively extracting the image.<\/p>\n<p>I have just finished this card for\u00a0<a title=\"July's Portfolio challenges\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetshoppecommunity.com\/forum\/showthread.php?t=54263\" target=\"_blank\">July&#8217;s portfolio challenge <\/a>#8.\u00a0 The challenge was to &#8216;<em>Visit<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.curlygirldesign.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>curlygirl\u2019s shop <\/em><\/a><em>and use the inspiration you find to create a page<\/em>&#8216;, and here\u2019s my hybrid\u00a0take on it, created using Dani Mogstad\u2019s lovely <a title=\"Gnome Sweet Gnome kit by Dani Mogstad, available at Sweet Shoppe Designs\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/sweetshoppe\/product.php?productid=21543&amp;cat=0&amp;page=1\" target=\"_blank\">Gnome Sweet Gnome<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"My finished card, inspired by Curly Girl's designs\" src=\"http:\/\/i733.photobucket.com\/albums\/ww332\/livelys\/packed-up-her-troubles2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"577\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I wanted to include as many of the essentials from Curly Girls designs as I could: a figure, layers of paper pieced patterned paper, a slightly vintage look, plus a fun saying.\u00a0 I confess that I went with a play on the \u2018Pack up your troubles in an old kit bag\u2019 song title simply so I could use a cute bag digi-stamp!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I found just the right pair of legs (!) and bag in my own digi-stamp stash \u2013 unfortunately complete with built-in white background.\u00a0 I cut around\/ extracted the legs with the lasso tool &amp; then used the paint bucket tool to give instant, coordinating colour.\u00a0 With the bag stamp, I used the lasso to cut around the outside, zooming right in to do it neatly, and then I also used it to &#8216;cut out&#8217; the white <em>inside<\/em> too, to effectively create a brush (of sorts!).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Digistamp Photoshop step \" src=\"http:\/\/i733.photobucket.com\/albums\/ww332\/livelys\/polylassootoolupclose.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"299\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Fiddly as I said, but with an audio book on in the background it wasn\u2019t <em>too<\/em> arduous! Really, really.<\/p>\n<p>The last Photoshop stages included adding the lovely papers from <a title=\"Gnome Sweet Gnome kit by Dani Mogstad\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/sweetshoppe\/product.php?productid=21543&amp;cat=0&amp;page=1\" target=\"_blank\">Dani\u2019s kit <\/a>&amp; my sentiments \u2013 the main one\u00a0in Darcy\u2019s <a title=\"DJB Fonts: I'm No Wizard by Darcy Baldwin\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/sweetshoppe\/product.php?productid=21825&amp;cat=0&amp;page=1\" target=\"_blank\">DJB I\u2019m No Wizard <\/a>font.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hi!\u00a0 Sara (livelys) here today with a little hybridy idea to share.
