{"id":7664,"date":"2011-08-09T07:22:19","date_gmt":"2011-08-09T11:22:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/?p=7664"},"modified":"2011-12-16T09:20:09","modified_gmt":"2011-12-16T14:20:09","slug":"365-days-of-bliss-teacher-note-card-holder-tutorial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/index.php\/2011\/08\/365-days-of-bliss-teacher-note-card-holder-tutorial\/","title":{"rendered":"365 Days of Bliss: Teacher Note Card Holder Tutorial"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"project\" src=\"http:\/\/i56.photobucket.com\/albums\/g182\/jubeefish\/teachernoteholderall.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s Juli here with a little hybrid tutorial for you.\u00a0 My youngest is turning 9 next week and will be starting the 4th grade the week after that.\u00a0 I&#8217;m becoming ever more aware that my elementary days are numbered and that middle and high school loom ahead &#8211; sigh!\u00a0 I&#8217;ve already learned with my oldest that it&#8217;s so not cool for mom to make her teachers little crafty gifts.\u00a0 So I&#8217;ve got to hold on to these last to years of elementary while I can&#8230;which means lots of teacher projects this year!!! (I sure hope we get an awesome teacher that appreciates little gifts!)<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m going to walk you through how to turn one of those $.10 paper duo tang folders (portfolios with two pockets) into a cute little note card holder perfect to dress up for just about anyone.\u00a0 Once you&#8217;ve got down the process the only limit is your creativity!<\/p>\n<p>Supplies:<br \/>\n1 &#8211; Paper Two Pocket Portfolio (if it has the center note book paper holder remove it)<br \/>\nDigital Kit &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/sweetshoppe\/product.php?productid=21500&amp;cat=0&amp;page=1\">Eww! Love and Stuff by Shawna Clingerman<\/a><br \/>\nCard stock and invitation side envelopes<br \/>\n2- small velcro &#8220;coins&#8221;<br \/>\nGeneral Hybrid Supplies: ruler, double stick tape, paper trimmer, ribbon, printer, presentation paper, scoring tool<br \/>\nExtra Supplies (to kick it up a notch) &#8211; border punch, 3&#8243; circle punch, card stock, foam dots<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0 To get started fold open your portfolio on a table.\u00a0 Make sure to neatly remove the center section that holds notebook paper if your portfolio has one.\u00a0 Using your ruler, measure down from the top of the portfolio 2.75 inches down from the top.\u00a0 Use your paper trimmer to make your cut (you may have to fold your portfolio closed to cut the whole thing at once). Illustration below.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"measure\" src=\"http:\/\/i56.photobucket.com\/albums\/g182\/jubeefish\/blogmeasure.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"411\" \/><\/p>\n<p>2. With the inside of the portfolio facing you, measure down 3 inches\u00a0 from the cut you just made in Step 1.\u00a0 Score across this line and fold down toward the bottom of the portfolio. (See below)<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"score\" src=\"http:\/\/i56.photobucket.com\/albums\/g182\/jubeefish\/blogscore.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"411\" \/><\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0 Open up the section you folded down in Step 2.\u00a0 Cut the folded section in the middle to create two separate flaps (see below).<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"cut\" src=\"http:\/\/i56.photobucket.com\/albums\/g182\/jubeefish\/blogcentercut.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"411\" \/><\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0 Now it&#8217;s time to get creative!\u00a0 Open your photo editing software (I use Elements 7) and create an 8.5&#8243; x 11&#8243; canvas.\u00a0 To create the front panel of the note holder you need to create a panel that is 8.5 inches wide and 5.25 inches tall.\u00a0 To create the inside panels (that go on the pockets) create two panels that are 8 inches wide and 4 inches tall (I did this on a separate 8.5&#8243; x 11&#8243; canvas) .\u00a0 To create your card fronts (however many you want &#8211; I made 4) create a panel that is 5 inches x 3.75 inches.\u00a0 (I did this on yet another separate 8.5&#8243; x 11&#8243; canvas).<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what each of my canvases looked like in Elements before printing.<\/p>\n<p>Front Panel and (print front panel twice) back panel.\u00a0 The pencil is created using basic shapes in Elements pieced together to make a pencil.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Front and Back Panel\" src=\"http:\/\/i56.photobucket.com\/albums\/g182\/jubeefish\/pencilnoteholderblog.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"445\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Inside Panels<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Inside Panel\" src=\"http:\/\/i56.photobucket.com\/albums\/g182\/jubeefish\/pencilnoteholderinside.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"445\" height=\"576\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Card Fronts<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Card fronts\" src=\"http:\/\/i56.photobucket.com\/albums\/g182\/jubeefish\/teachernotecardfrontsblog.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"445\" \/><\/p>\n<p>5.\u00a0 Print all your panels and trim with your paper trimmer.<\/p>\n<p>6.\u00a0 Assembly.\u00a0 Before adhering your front panel with double stick tape you need to secure a 43 inch piece of ribbon around the wide part of the folder with the cut ends sticking out at the side with the opening.\u00a0 I used some Scotch tape to secure my ribbon, however, packing tape would be even better.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"ribbon\" src=\"http:\/\/i56.photobucket.com\/albums\/g182\/jubeefish\/blogtaperibbon.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"411\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After securing the ribbon, adhere your front and back panels over the ribbon. This is no place to use a glue stick!\u00a0 Use some double stick tape, tape runner&#8230;something a little more heavy duty!<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"front\" src=\"http:\/\/i56.photobucket.com\/albums\/g182\/jubeefish\/blogfrontfinished.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"639\" height=\"456\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Next step is to open the portfolio and adhere the two inside panel to the front of the pockets.\u00a0 To get the flaps to stay closed apply a double stick Velcro coin under each flap.\u00a0 (see the kick it up a notch section below before you do this part!!!)<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"inside 1\" src=\"http:\/\/i56.photobucket.com\/albums\/g182\/jubeefish\/bloginside1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"411\" \/><\/p>\n<p>7.\u00a0 Cut white card stock in half down the long side (cut at 5.5&#8243;) and then score and fold at 4.25&#8243; down the long side.\u00a0 This will create 2 cards per sheet of card stock.\u00a0 Adhere your note card front to the front of the card.\u00a0 Make as many as you&#8217;d like.\u00a0 Put the cards in one pocket and put the envelopes in the other pocket.\u00a0 Fold shut, tie and you have a completed project!<\/p>\n<p>Now&#8230;this is pretty basic right???\u00a0 Why not kick it up a notch and use more hybrid skills to make this look a little more exciting?\u00a0 Here are some ideas.<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0 Print an additional pencil (that you personalized with the teacher&#8217;s name) to match the one on the front of project.\u00a0 Cut out with scissors and adhere to the front with foam dots.<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0 Add a decorative border punch to the inside pocket flaps BEFORE you adhere the Velcro coin.\u00a0 Make sure to cut your complementary paper in a way that the flap looks nice when you lift it!<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"inside 2\" src=\"http:\/\/i56.photobucket.com\/albums\/g182\/jubeefish\/bloginside2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"411\" \/><\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0 Add some decorative elements on the inside flaps such as little labels indicating which side has the note cards and which side the envelopes or even a nice teacher quotes.<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0 Personalize the project.\u00a0 We don&#8217;t know my DD&#8217;s name yet&#8230;but when we do I&#8217;ll be adding the teacher&#8217;s name to some additional note cards to tuck in before we give this away.<\/p>\n<p>5.\u00a0 Add additional ribbon, flowers, or other traditional scrapbooking elements to the project to give it dimension.\u00a0 Just make sure you can still tie the flap shut!!!\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>I hope this gives you a good basic hybrid project that can be spun a couple different ways.\u00a0 No one says you need to make this for a teacher.\u00a0 It would be a great way to give recipe cards out (especially for a cookie swap!), a cute little thank you gift, a going a way to college or camp gift&#8230;be creative and have fun!!!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s Juli here with a little hybrid tutorial for you.\u00a0 My youngest is turning 9 next week and will be starting the 4th grade the week after that.\u00a0 I&#8217;m becoming ever more aware that my elementary days are numbered and that middle and high school loom ahead &#8211; sigh!\u00a0 I&#8217;ve already learned with my oldest [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":100,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[135],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7664"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/100"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=7664"}],"version-history":[{"count":6,"href":"https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7664\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":10114,"href":"https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7664\/revisions\/10114"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=7664"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=7664"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.sweetshoppedesigns.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=7664"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
