Hello Sweeties! Julie Billingsley here\u2026 celebrating my 12th anniversary today with my husband! We actually celebrated our anniversary last weekend because it was the only time we all had the day off work AND the weather was going to be gorgeous. What I had wanted most of all was to just spend a day with the family at the beach, so we packed up for a day trip to the Oregon coast!<\/p>\n

Here are my husband and our 2 boys (Jacob age 19, Logan age 8 )<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

We drove the 2 hours to Oswald West State Park (also known as Cape Falcon) which is just south of Cannon Beach. We had never been there, but I had recently read an article about great Oregon beaches and thought it sounded interesting. You have to park and hike through some old-growth wonderful Pacific Northwest forest. The hike is easy and so gorgeous that it alone was worth the drive.\u00a0 The path goes along a small river that empties into the ocean.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The beach was really foggy when we first arrived and we had the beach mostly to ourselves\u2026 along with the surfers. This beach is known for some of the best Oregon surfing and the fog didn’t deter the surfers at all! You seriously couldn’t even see the ocean it was so foggy. I have no idea how they surfed in that! There were dozens trying to catch the waves and once the fog cleared up it was great watching them. Even as the day went on, this beach wasn’t as crowded as most Oregon beaches on the weekend. The hike must discourage people from coming there, but I thought the hike was a real plus to the whole adventure.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

We enjoyed our picnic lunch and then the boys started building sandcastles. Luckily the fog had burned off and the sky was clear and gorgeous by noon. It was wonderful relaxing in the dazzling sun and letting the guys dig in the sand. We had set up our area right near the river where it joins the ocean and that provided lots of safe fun and splashing for Logan.<\/p>\n

It is truly a beautiful area where the forest and the beach meet up in this amazing combo that only Oregon can bring you. You have to see this pic that Jacob took, it shows the craggy rocks, the mouth of the river going into the ocean, and the evergreen trees hugging the coastline. Just beautiful.<\/p>\n

We spent about 4 hours on the beach and then decided to pack up and do some more exploring in the forest near the beach. We wandered the paths and crossed a real bouncy suspension bridge, which really interested my oldest son who is an engineering student.<\/p>\n

Our exploring was cut short by our grumbling tummies, so we headed off to a nearby Oregon iconic eatery, Mo’s Restaurant. There we enjoyed the ocean view as we dined on big bowls of clam chowder and hamburgers. It was a fabulous stay cation and gave us tons of family memories! And making family memories is the very best type of bliss.<\/p>\n
