I had the opportunity last week to fly out to Texas to visit my SIL and her husband on their east Texas farm. I flew into Dallas and we spent the day at the Galleria (my kind of life, shopping). Then after picking my MIL up after her flight came in we headed to their home a couple of hours away. It was definitely hot there and I was not prepared for the scenery I experienced on the drive there. I was just in east Texas exactly one year ago and it was beautiful and green. This year the heat and the drought have taken a great toll on the area. Everything was brown and a lot of trees were dead. My BIL explained to me just how bad the drought has affected their dairy farm. Normally they grow their own hay to feed their cows. With the drought they have not been able to grow any, and the whole area is this way so they cannot find hay to purchase. So they have to buy corn stalk bales to feed them. These bales are much more expensive than hay and the cows do not like to eat corn stalk so they have to mix it with molasses and alcohol, which is also expensive. My heart goes out to all the farmers being affected by this horrible drought.
\nIt was exciting to see how thing operate and I was glad to experience it, however, I know I would not be cut out for this kind of life and am grateful I am a city girl. LOL! I have nothing but admiration and respect for farmers and their families, they truly work their hind ends off and are great people. Of course I had to take lots of pics of the animals, so I will let those do the rest of the talking for my post.<\/p>\n
<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.melissabennettdesigns.com\/images\/goat1.jpg\" alt=\"angry goat\" \/><\/p>\n
He’s an angry elf!!
