Where do you call home?
I was born and raised in Chicago and in many ways it is still home to my heart, but in my adulthood I have experienced living throughout the country, owing to my husband’s military service. Most recently, since my husband’s retirement from service, we have planted roots in SW Ohio.
Tell us a little about your family…
I am blessed to be married to my best friend since 2001. Together, we have two children and three cats. I homeschool my youngest child and have loved the experience of growing and learning and exploring and chasing her interests together.
When did you join Sweet Shoppe Designs & what’s your favorite thing about being a member of the team?
I became part of the Sweet Shoppe Design family in January 2025. I love how the team lifts each other up and authentically pours care in to one another.
How long have you been designing?
In many ways creative design has been a part of my fabric for as long as I can remember…but I officially began my career as a designer in 2010.
What inspires you?
Relationships. I am so inspired by the conversations, the personalities, and the dynamics of relationships in my life. So much story lives there in the everyday moments and each person’s journey into becoming who they were made to be. I also find inspiration in daily details, music, nature, and color.
Tell us a little bit about your design process…
Since my creativity is rooted in storytelling, memory making and keeping, my entire process begins and ends with the Story. I plan, craft, and design with a heart for story-centric art, rich in detail, that I would want to use to record my own family’s history or to document my own self portrait. Once I have a story compass in mind, I map out all the wordy goodness. Then I select colors and begin illustrations and pattern creation. And then I edit and re-edit and edit some more until I land with a collection that touches all the notes I dreamed up along the way.
What is something we may not know about you?
I love language and the written word and have been working on building content for journaling and story centric classes and workshops.
