DIY Home Remodeling – A Work In Progress
Well, it looks like a few of us are working on remodeling our homes and we are one of them. A couple years ago we bought a fixer-upper short sale. It was the only thing we could afford at the time and I saw so much potential when we first saw the house. The first thing I wanted to do was remodel the kitchen, unfortunately we had some other things that needed to be taken care of first. We quickly saw our kitchen funds dwindle to practically nothing. I had to let go of my dreams to remodel the kitchen, until my Mom showed us some plans she had drawn up for us. We loved them, but just didn’t have the money for it. With the plans in our head, we decided to check out the Habitat For Humanity Resale store just to see if they had any kitchen cabinets that might work… and we found some!!! Not only were they an awesome price but they were only 5 years old and there were 14 pieces, so we knew that we could piece it all together to fit our house. It was like we were hit in the faces an decided that we would use our tax return and put off our yard plans to go forward with these plans! The plans are to turn our kitchen/dining room/living room (basically the whole main floor of our house) into a great room. First we needed to finalize and write up the floor plan using the measurements of the pieces we had. Then my Dad, who is a woodworker, worked with Mark to piece them together over a long weekend last month. Last week my parents came back and they got to work. I was at the homeschool convention so I missed a bunch of it, but it was so fun coming home to find more of it complete. The first day they got the upper cabinets in, the next day they got the dishwasher out and tore out the lower cabinets and installed the new cabinets after moving the dishwasher to the other side of the sink!!! I got home late and they had just finished that up… I was so excited to see my new kitchen coming together! The next day they finished up some electrical and some of the plumbing and put in the rest of the upper cabinets and put on the rest of the doors and started planning for the work to be done this week. My parents went to WI for a wedding and Mark hung out with the kids while I was at the convention.
This week they got to work on moving the door to the garage from the kitchen to where it needs to be in the living room, and also worked on some electrical stuff. I’m just so excited seeing it coming together. Mark and I will have to patch the hole in the wall from where the door used to be and then put up some more cabinets and then we’ll be able to tear down the wall and pantry so that we can move the refrigerator and put in the new pantry. Then we will be able to put in the kitchen island and finally order our countertops. Lastly, we’ll have to tear out the hardwood floors which we hope to be able to salvage some of, and put in the new hardwood flooring and paint the walls. I can’t wait to get rid of the super dark and dirty burnt orange and hunter green walls from the previous owner!!!
So, I know many of you are doing Project Life, including myself, and I just had to make this whole thing an insert instead of part of the weekly 2 page spread. Since there was so much that happened, I didn’t want to miss posting all the progress from the renovations, plus all the other things going on last week. 🙂 I just completed my insert pages and am so excited to share them with you!

Wow, Heather! I just love seeing the progress (and I love the way you scrapped it too)! Keep the pics coming! Your fellow kitchen remodel-er at the moment….Jackie 🙂

I’d love to see more photos!
And my Project Life was a weekly thing with extra pages inserted when a special event took place. Sometimes the added page was 8.5×11. There are so many more pocket pages available now that the possibilities are endless!
