30 Days of Gratitude: Day 8

SugarBabe Rebecca shares her love of homeschooling.

If you had asked me when J was born if we would be homeschooling, I would have thought you were crazy! Haha. In fact when my hubby brought it up four years ago as a possibility, I thought he was nuts! I am the most disorganized, perfectionist, ohh-look-something-shiny personality. How could I provide all the knowledge that J will need to know in life? But we are making it work . . . and I’m sooo happy and blessed that we have chosen this route.

Everyday I’m amazed at what J is learning. We have joined Classical Conversations, which I can not express my love enough about. Now he is walking around reciting latin, skip counting his 13s, signing historical events from the ancient ages through the middle ages, and can name all the major rivers and mountains of Europe.  It is such an awesome feeling to have my six year old turn to you and beg to learn how to write cursive, learn how to play piano, or start ancient history, a subject I hadn’t planned to start for a few years. I love being able to explore his passions, which this summer was space. Our living room wall was turned into a huge solar system with planets, moons, and asteroids hand drawn and cut out by J, and we emptied the library of all their space books!! I love going to second hand stores or yard sales and finding educational games and books to help inspire and encourage J to love learning. I am so blessed and happy that we have stumbled upon this path.

Is every day easy? Oh no!! Haha. We buck heads, a lot . . . but every time he “gets” something and his eyes light up and I hear him exclaim, “MAMA!! I got it!!! Oh, Mama . . . I love this! I love mamaschool.”  That is why we do this. . . .
