365 Days of Bliss – Staycation:Mystic Seaport

Hello fellow Sweet Shoppers… Mary here bringing you my installment of bliss.
This summer we are taking a couple of day trips or stay-cations as some like to call em. This is also a follow up post re the Public Library Passes I got almost 2 weeks ago. So we could take our Stay-Cation, lol.
On a couple of occasions I have driven by Mystic and thought that looks like an interesting place here in CT but I never looked into it. When I got to the library and inquired about the passes they offered, they said we offer free passes for Mystic Seaport Museum of America and the Sea, I said I’ll take em well after looking at the lighthouse maps and summer activities sheet and from what I’ve seen driving by.
The drive was ok nice and hot day about n hour n half from where I live but went by quickly. We get there and they have a huge parking area which was GREAT b/c I didn’t have to pay for parking. Once we got off made our way to the inside their really was a lot of walking to do not only inside of the Museum but outside also.
We picked up an activity sheet for the day and it gave us a brief history of Mystic Seaport it was founded in 1929, Settlers found good wood, sheltered water and flat land- ideal for shipbuilding. Ship and boat yards lined the six-mile Mystic River. They exhibit and collect artifacts and skills related to maritime history. That is exactly what we got to see and we also got to ride in a small boat from one end of the museum to the other.
It was a great learning experience for myself and the kids. We had a great and exhausting day. I’ll tell the rest of my story by sharing some of my favorite photos and you get to see a little of what we saw on our day out….

  • Your pictures are great! My parents lived in CT for 10 years and my sister had her wedding/reception at a restaurant next to the Seaport. Looks like you guys had fun!
