365 Days of Bliss – iPhoneography

Heya, cupcakes! Krystal here with a new obsession–iPhoneography!

When this blog post started taking some sort of form in my head, it was full of before and after shots, playing with all the fun effects that one can find in the scores of iPhone photo apps. However, in the process of researching my topic, I discovered a world that I didn’t know existed. And now I have a greater appreciation for my iPhone’s not so feeble camera.

First of all, let me introduce you to an amazing and inspirational blog called (surprise) iPhoneography. This blog just pulled me right in. Apps and photography challenges and interviews with iPhoneographers…I was so enchanted. I looked at my iPhone and thought, ” I had no idea you could do all this. Shame on me for only using you as a last resort.”

I skimmed through the blog entries, pausing to dive in deeper when a particular photo caught my eye…Is this an app I’d use? How does she do that? Wow! So artistic! I was mesmerized browsing their Flickr inspiration. I read through several of the interviews and paid attention to the photographers style and the apps they use frequently, and based on their input, I downloaded several new apps.

Apparently, Hipstamatic is like the. go-to. app. for iPhoneographers. I also added Camera+, Filterstorm, and PicStitch. I haven’t had much of a chance to play with them yet, but I’m just super excited to be able to have some creative input on the photos that I take with my phone.

But not to diverge too far from my original intentions with this entry, I asked a friend (college-aged dude who rarely takes pics, let alone knows anything about how to process them or scrapbook them) to take a photo and use one of the many apps to play with it. This is the result:

PicSay app review

and this is what he said about it:

I used the program ‘PicSay’ to edit this photo. I took this photo as my dog maggie had eaten a sandwich that wasn’t suppose to be hers. She was trying to hide it in the living room while she ate it but I snapped this too fast. 🙂

I liked the program had a lot of features and allowed for undoing and reverting back to other options if you didn’t like it. It had a bunch of features I only used a couple here being brightness, temperature, pixelation, and then the word bubble and spotlight feature. There was easy adjustment and an as you were working preview appeared so you didn’t have to guess at the effect. The options were quick to catch on too and didn’t take long at all to start work on the photo. The bubble for talk had many different fonts and colors and moving it around the photo was easy. I also liked that the bubble could be changed from thought bubble to a scream or a saying or a couple other features. Very good program if you want to add text into your photos.

I only had two issues with the program one being that once I had added the spolight I couldn’t get it to undo the spotlight once I had put it on there. The other thing was when saving the photo I had to unhook my phone from the computer to save it and it didn’t give me an option to select a name for the files. Other than that this was a program easy to use very custom friendly and best of all Free to download!

And my own attempt at some fun using Camera+:

And using Filterstorm:

So, what do you think? The iPhoneography bug going to bite you, too?
