Scrap With The Sugar Babes Sunday!

Sugar Babe Shawna here and I’m so excited to introduce you to this month’s Scrap With the Sugar Babes challenge!

Each month Robin challenges us girls to step outside the box a bit and try something new with our SWTSB challenge – these challenges are really one of my favorite parts about being a Sugar Babe! It is really so exciting to get some inspiration from somewhere completely out side of myself, and I think it really pushes me to add things to my scrap book that I otherwise never would have considered doing!

This month our SWTSB challenge is even MORE exciting for me because it is an “all about me” page! I know, most of you are saying “uggg” when you hear that – BUT let me tell you – I think AAM layouts are one of the greatest kinds of pages we do as scrappers – and this month’s is a really great opportunity for all of us to “get real” and to have some fun for a bit.

I think an AAM page is really one of the most important ways for us to share our legacy with the next generation. I know for a fact that when your children and grandchildren look at these incredible mementos you have created for them, they are going to want to know – who made this book for me – and not just who, but who you are. Here you have done this “super woman” like task of documenting and beautifying important moments in your children’s lives, and they will love it I am sure. But I wonder if maybe, without any perspective, that might seem rather intimidating to them – who is this perfect mom, with the always clean carpets and the pictures of smiling children with perfectly coordinating elements left and right.

I always imagine this, when my future daughter in law looks through the pages I’ve created, in between the beauty and the perfection, I want her to find humanity. I would like for her to read about how I cried when I did the laundry, or to see that sometimes my house was so messy I couldn’t even really walk through the play room. I think that when I pass away someday, probably the best gift I’ll be able to leave to my sons, is the truth: pages journaled about how I loved them so much that sometimes it scared me, about an obsessive love for coffee, or my deep desire to sleep the day away, and even my pain over my own imperfections. All in all, my humanity – it is what I bring to the world.

It is what we all bring to the world for better or worse – and with all the hours we spend scrapping our kids, we should be certain to make a spot in history for ourselves too.

(hmmm, can you tell I have a love for words LOL! Maybe it is time to get on with the challenge! 😉 )

“So this month’s SWTSB challenge goes like this: Create a Layout that examines some ‘Scary Truths’ about yourself. It’s totally up to you whether you go for deep, reflective and serious about your scary truths or whether you poke fun at yourself and your quirks. Take a look at where the Babes have gone in their scary truth layouts and once you’ve found some inspiration, fess up and show off the Scary Truth about YOU! We cant wait to get to know more about you and are looking forward to seeing a side of your personality we wouldn’t expect!”

When I thought about “The Scary Truth” and then saw this incredible new kit, Rain Song by Suzy Nunez, my husband actually popped in and told me “Shawna, you never even sing in the shower anymore – that is sort of a scary truth”… he’s right, it is a sad truth that has just kind of come about in my life – and this page just had to be made.

And here are a few other Babe Layouts to give you the idea-

This is Karen’s page about “The Mark” she’s made on her couch scrapbooking for hours 🙂 I love her play on words here, and it is a funny lighthearted look at her obsession with DigiScrapping!

Karen used Spiced Tea Oxidation by MandaBean here in the Sweet Shoppe.

I also love this next one by Tracie, the “scary truth” about how she has only child syndrome, and the way it effects her.

This page uses Lauren Grier’s Tyler Kit here at Sweet Shoppe Designs.

Each of my fellow babes put together a page with this theme and I know they will all inspire you – so GO to the gallery and check them out! You can read the Journaling from the ones you see here in the gallery too.
Aha!! See! Perfect chance people to let some of your own self shine and get a bit real! We are all human, and we all have our quirks and our misgivings – in the end it is OKAY to let them OUT! Go to the gallery – get inspired – and then you too SHARE with us a scary truth that might not have ever seen the light of day.

Remember too – everyone who plays along gets the chance to win a $15 gift card to the Sweet Shoppe! So play with us, and then post your link HERE in the Scrap With the Sugar Babes forum so that we can see what your scary truth is too!
