Featured Scrapper 4/30 – Lena Brandenburg

Well here we are on the last day of April…I hope everyone had a blast with the challenges this month and if you need another extra point well today is your lucky day! Don’t worry it’s an easy one :). This week our Featured Scrapper is our very own Sweet Shoppe regular Lena! If you’ve been around SSD very long then you will surely recognize her fabulous layouts. I have always been a fan of hers and love how she sometimes brings her great sense of humor into her pages.

Here’s a little more about Lena:

I’ve been scrapping for just over 4 years. I started scrapping in Paint Shop Pro 8 and am now using Paint Shop Pro X3. Five versions later, I still love PSP! I am currently creating for Julie Billingsley, Shawna Clingerman and Lauren Grier. I’ve been very lucky over the years to also create for Libby, Manda, Krystal, Fee, Susan, Darcy and Melissa.

1. What was the title of your very first layout?

“Nathan’s Thinkin’ Spot”. I don’t even have that layout anymore, but I started scrapping a few months after a trip to Disney, and I had a cute photo of Nathan next to “Pooh’s Thinkin’ Spot” inside Pooh’s Playful World at Walt Disney World. My sister Tabatha had to walk me through every aspect of that layout, and I was hooked immediately!

2. When not online, what do you do?

During Spring, Summer, and Fall, I spend a lot of time on the porch with Tabatha, watching all of our collective children play in the yard…in the sandbox, the swingset, the pool…we move at a slower pace out here in the country and we love it. On the weekends, my boyfriend James and I love to take Naomi and Parker to the big park or just find time to go bowling or the movies by ourselves. Really, just the same sort of stuff that everyone else does!

3. What is your favorite thing to drink?

Ahh, sweet tea! I could drink sweet tea (hold the lemon!) all day, every day

4. What aspect of scrapping do you think you are best at?

That is a tough question. I guess I’d have to say scrapping bravely. I’m not afraid to scrap a silly fictitious account of a ceiling fan ninja or a woman whose super power is fighting retail injustice one transaction at a time. I’ve thanked my uterus, confronted a unfaithful ex-husband, and talked about both my hatred for flamingos and love of gnomes, all on scrapbook pages. Because to me, scrapping is more than just showcasing my cute kids…it really has helped me through some heavy stuff, and helped me laugh myself silly too!

I also asked Lena to share 3 of her own favorite layouts with us and tell us what she loves about them.

I love this one because I had a vision in my head of what I wanted, and although it took me several hours to see it through, I had a lot of fun creating it! It was a nice break away from creating a page for a challenge or a creative team assignment. I loved choosing photos of each of my kids and finding a way to highlight them all.

This page makes me happy when I look at it, plain and simple. I think it is one of the prettiest pages I’ve made.

Even though this one is 7 months old, it is still one of my favorites for many reasons. I love this fun kit, I love the expressive photo of Parker, I think the journaling & title are pretty clever and I like the composition too.
