Featured Designer 6/11 – Shawna Clingerman

Hey Sweet Shoppers! This week it is so exciting to share with you our Featured Designer – Shawna Clingerman! I think you all know how fabulous Shawna is already…but let’s get to know her a little better…

1. How did you get started designing?
In late 2005, my hubby showed up after work with a new graphic tablet for me.  I’d been drawing little doodles and scanning them in from time to time to give away on my blog, so I was just thrilled to actually be able to actually doodle on my computer.  After that I really got in to drawing little swoopeis and what not and giving them away, when the owner of NDISB asked me to come sell them in the shop.  I took the big dive into selling and I slowly started designing more and more things and putting them up for sale.  In November 2006, I scored the best gig in town and started selling a the Sweet Shoppe.  And the rest is history!

I started just with my wacom and Photoshop Elements and I (ever so slowly) saved all my pennies to buy the full Creative Suite. Today I am working in Illustrator and Photoshop and I’m amazed to still be learning new tricks 4 years later!

2. What is your best selling product?
My best selling kit to date is You Don’t Know Me

3. Where do you get inspiration for your designs?
I get them really randomly, sometimes from things I want to scrap with for my boys, and sometimes it will be when I see a window display, or a little sign at starbucks, or when I run into a set of colors online that I just LOVE. Really I keep waiting to run out of ideas, but what do you know, they are still coming, 4 years later!

4. What is your designing “atmosphere”?
I design in my living room, on my hot pink Dell laptop. I am either on the couch with a lap desk for the lappy and the wacom. Or I will sit at the desk we have and plug into our monitor and keyboard so that I can design with an extra monitor (and goodness gracious I love me a 2 monitor set up!). I do a majority of my designing at the crack of dawn before the boys are awake, or on Fridays, when the hubby is home and I can sneak away to work at our awesome local library.

I also asked Shawna to share 3 of her own favorite products and let us know why she loves them:

4 My Boys Collection

The 4 My Boys Collection is easily my favorite set of kits because, well I made it for my boys. Each one of these kits reflect the kids, their favorite colors, and their own little special and unique personalities. I love how each of them are so wonderful and yet so different – this collection is all for them.

Kickstart

This kit is one of my absolute favorites. It is bright and fun, and I love that. Also, it is pretty meaningful to me, I made this kit when I was feeling myself getting dragged down by depression and frustration. I decided what better way to fight it than by actually creating something to kick start some feelings of hope and happiness. It was totally cathartic, and what do you know – it totally worked!

Super You

Super you is one of my favorites because it is just such a fun reflection of my life. I have four little amazing super hero’s running around here, and it’s an action packed adventure after adventure with these kids!
