Featured Scrapper for 8*27 – Vanessa!

Good Friday morning Sweet Shoppers! It is hard to believe that it is the last Friday in August. My oldest started school on Tuesday & to me – fall has begun, but I am not ready to put the shorts and flip-slops away just yet. This time of year is always bittersweet for me.

So this last Friday of the month I bring to you Vanessa (nesser1981) as our last featured scrapper in the month. If you have not checked out her gallery, I suggest you do so! I love her real life pages.

Vanessa started scrapping early August 2006, so she just hit her 4 year anniversary. She was never much of a paper scrapper and was so far behind on all of Keira’s (her daughter’s) baby pictures that she started doing digi and never looked back.  Vanessa uses Photoshop CS3, ACDsee, and shoots with a Rebel XSi.

I asked Vanessa to answer a few questions about herself and her scrapping style.

Q. What are 2 things you consider yourself to be very good at?

2 things I consider myself to be very good at are I guess cooking and digi scrapping, or at least I did until Keira got sick and I haven’t done much of either.

Q. What’s one little known fact about you.

Little Known fact, I grew-up in a tiny town on the gulf coast of Florida with less than 250 people, we had to drive 20 miles to school, McDonalds, etc.  40 miles to Walmart and 70 miles to the closest mall, movie theater, and hospital.

Q. Tell us a little about your scrapping “style” if you have one.

I think my scrapping style is simple, very traditional scrapbook like.  It’s what I like, Over the years I’ve learned that I don’t need to be in the “in crowd” when it comes to scrapping and I’ve stopped trying to please people that won’t care about my pages in 20 years, my kids and family will.  Its hard to find that style to make yourself happy, everyone wants their pages to rock and get lots of attention.

Q. What’s your favorite element to use on a page?

Favorite Element, I’m a big fan of buttons and stitching, always have been, I don’t really know why.

Here are Vanessa’s 3 favorite pages:

Meeting Tinkerbell

“I loved how this page turned out, Keira was beyond excited to meet Tink.  It
was wonderful!”

Fast Friends

“I just feel like this page totally came together for me, one of my favorite
pages I’ve done in months.  The colors and shadows all just work.”

10 Moments I’ll Never Forget

“This list should be changed now, I scrapped it back in February a good 2 months before we found out Keira had cancer, I still feel like its a great page, major events in history, wonderful and sad  family moments.  This is what our lives are about.”

Blog Bonus Challenge #4 – It’s time for a Spin-A-Lift. Your challenge is to look through Vanessa’s gallery and chose a layout you’d like to life, but instead of doing a straight lift – flip or rotate Vanessa’s layout and create a layout of your own. Please make sure you upload your layout using mostly SSD items to the Gallery and update your August Portfolio by August 31st to earn 1 point.  This challenge is available for an extra New Release Point – to make it a total of 2 points.  Remember that this challenge cannot be combined with any other portfolio challenge.

Here’s some Babe-spiration to help you get started!

Here is Amy’s layout. She I lifted “Fast Friends” and used KCB’s Tropical Hideaway.

And Kjersti & I both lifted Beautiful Girls.  Here is Kjersti’s layout using Zoe Pearn’s Summer Days.
