Friday Featured Scrapper turned Babe Laurie Book

Happy Friday Sweet Shoppers! How did it become the middle of August already? It’s hot.hot.hot here in Wisconsin. It reached 93 degrees yesterday and is so humid out. It feel likes you can cut the air with a knife it is so thick. But this has been a great summer. It’s sad that my oldest will be starting Kindergarten in just 10 very short days.

And to top it all off – today is Friday the 13th.  Oooooh.  I seriously hope no bad luck comes anyone’s way today! 🙂

I’m happy to bring you today’s Friday Featured scrapper now turned Friday’s Featured Babe, Laurie Book (libbysmommy). Little did Nikki or I know that when creating the schedule for August, there would be a Babe Call and Laurie would join us on the team.

Laurie started paper scrapping in 2005 and VERY quickly realized that it wasn’t for her.  Laurie saw a girl making signatures on a baby message board and asked her about it. She then began Googling digital scrapbooking and was immediately hooked!! She’s been scrapping digitally since July 2006 and use Photoshop CS5 and love it!!

Here are three of Laurie’s favorite projects….

“I was really pleased with how this page all came together. The colors of the kit are amazing and as soon as I saw this photo of my daughter I knew it was a perfect match. My favorite part of the page is the unique composition, which is something I feel I definitely struggle with from time to time. ”

“This one is a new favorite of mine. I really stepped outside of my comfort zone on this one because of the number of photos I used. I usually only use 1 or 2 photos because I’m not quite sure how to arrange them. This amazing kit is what really inspired me to use so many photos. I knew I wanted the page to be about the importance of remembering little random moments.”

“This one is one of my favorites because I don’t often scrap my husband and I. I’m not even sure I’ve scrapped those old photos before, lol!! We’re celebrating 9 years together this month and a page dedicated to us was in order!! I love the colors in this kit – they’re so happy and bright and it might sound sappy, but they’re a great representation of how I feel about my relationship with my hubby!!”

Q. Describe your scrapping environment
My scrapping environment changes depending on what time of day it is!! If I’m scrapping during nap/quiet time then I’m in the living room at my desk. After everyone is in bed, I usually take my laptop into our playroom and I sit the loveseat with it and watch tv while I’m scrapping.

Q. Are you a fast scrapper or do you take several hours or days to work on a layout?
I think overall I’m a fairly quick scrapper. I usually average 1-2 hours on a layout. The only time I ever really take longer is if I sit down not knowing which kit I want to use. Then I can sometimes spend 1-2 hours “trying out” kits. I’ll often open up a kit in photoshop and start the page and realize it’s not quite the kit that I wanted to use…then I’m back to square one!! lol
Q. If you could only use one SSD kit from now on what would it be?

Are you sure you didn’t mean 10 kits? Only one kit? Well thank goodness that doesn’t have to be a reality!! There are SOOOO many!! I think it would have to be Kristin Cronin-Barrow’s A Whimsical Garden. The colors are so versatile, it’s got lots of flowers, and hearts and cute little creatures. Oh my!! I’m in love with the alphas and papers too.
Q. How often do you find time to sit down and scrap?

I scrap during nap/quiet time and also at night after everyone has gone to bed. At night is my most favorite time to scrap – it’s completely quiet, our animals are all snuggly with me and I am usually watching my tivo or netflix. It’s my most productive scrap time!!

BLOG BONUS CHALLENGE #2: What I consider as one of Laurie’s strong suits when scrapping is her ability to mix alpha’s when doing a title. Your challenge is to use Laurie’s gallery as inspiration and use at least two alphas in your title.

Make sure you use primarily Sweet Shoppe products, upload your layout to the gallery and link your August Portfolio and mark this challenge as Blog Bonus #2 and you earn 1 point.

Remember, you cannot combine this challenge with any other portfolio challenges, but this bonus challenge is eligible for a new release point.

Here are some Babe Inspiration to get you started!

Aggie used Hot Diggity Dog by Kristin Cronin Barrow & Melissa Bennett.

Sheri created this lovely layout using Busted by Libby Weifenbach & Kristin Argaard.

Shannon used lots of Julie Billingsley goodies on her page – Wonderous, Punchy Edges, Recycle Bin Alpha & Filthy Alpha.

You have until August 31st to complete this challenge. Have a great Friday and an awesome weekend.
