365 Days of Bliss: Day 35 – Summer Schedules

Hi!  Rebecca, aka MamaBee, here today with a post about those summer schedules!  I look at the calendar and I just can’t believe that it’s June. Where did the last 5 months go? Has this year gone by pretty quickly for you, too?  Now summer is coming up and I want to make it special for my kiddo. Even though he is four and probably won’t remember a lot of what we have planned to do… it’s just such a fun age and I love hearing his “take” on things we do.

One thing I should note is that I am a homebody… I love being at home with my family so we usually do not plan a lot of things to do outside of the home… so to look at our summer schedule, my husband is concerned that I planned too much. Ha, ha… June is pretty busy… starting tomorrow, kiddo will have one week of Vacation Bible School. Tomorrow night also starts another swimming class; and then next week J will go to Safety Town where they go through where and when to cross the street, how to call 911, and basic bike safety.  Then there is a day where he can try his hand out at T-Ball with other 4 and 5 year olds… hopefully we’ll be able to go see Day out with Thomas… he has a beginning reading program through the local university every Sunday for 7 weeks… plus I challenge my family to do at least 16 new things this summer as our Summer Bucket List…  phew… I’m getting a little nervous thinking about how I’m going to keep this all straight!  ha, ha!

Keeping organized is something I’m constantly trying to work at… I have piles of to-do lists all over the house, I live by a TeuxDeux list to make sure that I don’t miss any CT requirements… so what I really need to make sure I don’t miss anything this summer is another calendar! 😉 I don’t want this summer ending up like last summer!  Our big project in Summer 2010 was to visit all 30 parks in our city… I didn’t plan them out very well and at the end of the summer we were visiting 2 parks a day to meet our goal… *sigh* I still haven’t scrapped those park photos!

I created a full month calendar to show at a glance what is coming up… here is a closer view… isn’t Misty’s new kit just divine?

I just printed this out on Wednesday and it has already changed! *sigh*… we decided not to go to the Cheese Festival yesterday and headed down to Chicago, instead – which made me all happy, I was able to meet up with Sugarbabe Heather… it has been almost a year and 1/2 since the first time we met in person.

Next I also created a little booklet to keep track of the details… what do I need to bring along? Where is the class located?  I also have a stack of blank pages for things that come up.

I’m feeling pretty good now about keeping track of all the fun events that I have planned so far… now I need to go through our Bucket list and add to our calendar… luckily, July and August aren’t nearly as busy as June!! And some of the planned events are also “Bucket items”… and with a bit of self-labeled brilliance, I put my list on chipboard album pages – so all I have to do is add a photo and date to the back of the card and I should have this all scrapbooked by the end of the summer… why do I picture my hubby raising an eyebrow to that thought?

Do you have any special tips that you do to organize kids schedules?  What on-line tools do you use? Or, do you use calendars or daily planners?  Are your summer schedules filling up fast, too?  Please let me know… I can use all the tips I can get for this area… 🙂

  • Wow! You are WAY more organized than I am. We have a dry erase calendar, and that’s about it… I am so envious of your system- I may have to “lift” it 😉

  • Great calendar! I also like the little book of additional info sheets. I use a calendar like this all year long. I get one every year from Shutterfly then just handwrite everything in. With 5 people’s schedules, school events, doctor’s appointments, etc, I need something easy to check at a glance that I can refer DH to, too.
