Making a room into a PLAY-room!
Sheri here to tell you about how I turned an all-purpose room into a play room! Some of you may remember a few months ago when I posted in the forum for suggestions on how to convert a room into a playroom (thank you for your suggestions). I’m proud to present our new playroom. It’s a big hit with my boys, Michael (7) and Thomas (5). Not only do they have their own space, but there is a dedicated area for them to do their homework. I am really happy with the results.
Here are some before and after photos to show the transformation.
We own a mid-century home that boasts a lot of built in features. This room is a perfect example. There is a built in bed, two built in closets and a set of drawers. That makes this space awkward to decorate, so that was my first obstacle to overcome. We were previously using this room as a nursery, so my first step of the transformation was to remove the crib and changing table.
Next, I was tasked with locating furniture that would fit this unique space. A trip to Ikea proved to be fruitful. I was able to locate a desk, lamp, computer, several accessories, a chair and a hutch that fit perfectly between the wall and the window. I repurposed the bins from another room, in order to consolidate the boys’ toys into one room.
The built-in bed is a nice feature, but since we already have a guest room, it was good space that wasn’t being put to optimal use. I purchased a couple of carpets and turned it into an arts and crafts area. I added two mirrors (one is obscured by the easel) to give the space a larger feel. I also removed the curtains that previously enclosed the area in.
… and a couple more photos facing the opposite direction.
What play room would be complete without a place for homework?
And finally, the finished product, which includes an area for the boys to watch movies or work on the computer! The hutch hosts board games, puzzles and lots of other supplies, while the closets are perfect for larger games.
Thanks for letting me share my journey! Happy Monday!
