Growing Up and Changing Tastes

I’m sure we can all relate to how fast time goes by these days. My oldest, Ashley, recently turned nine and I cannot believe how much older she is looking in some of her photos lately. So I went through my photo stash and pulled out a photo of her from each year since the day she was born, just to have a look at the changes….and yes, I will be scrapping these, I love doing “over the years” layouts!

So with her increasing age comes a lot of changing tastes. Shortly after she turned 8, she was begging us to redecorate her room. Suddenly, she was into an “I hate pink” phase, and guess what color her room was? Pastel pink. We set out to try to figure out what color she wanted to change her room to, and to find some new bedding and accessories. We finally had enough time to paint and finish shopping for everything at beginning of this year, after she turned 9. We went with a bright turquoise for the walls and lots of bold colors for accessories to tie into the bedding (which is from Bed, Bath and Beyond)…..fushia, lime green and chocolate brown. Here are the before and after photos….I have to laugh at the photo of her in the before photos….she has quite the hairdo…she had just come out of the bath 🙂

All the signs of having a little girl are now gone….no more pastel pink, Winnie the Pooh decor, and princess stuff (sob!)…it has been replaced by Monster High, Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift. I really love how her room turned out though, it is so cheerful and bright. It made me want to go re-paint other rooms in the house and get rid of all the neutral colors. She especially loves her new lime green bean bag chair, she loves to curl up in it at night and do some reading. Of course now my little guy wants his room redone too, but he has to wait at least a couple of years….not to mention that he wants it changed to forest green (yuck!)…I’m hoping that will change by the time we are ready to redecorate his!
Have a great Monday everyone!

  • Adorable pictures of your daughter. I really see the change in the last two years.
I notice the big changes in my two granddaughters the same way. Love her new room and the colors, really shows she’s growing up.

  • Love the redo of the room! Someday, I might get brave enough to actually decorate one of my kids’ rooms. They have very blah bedrooms right now. LOL.

  • How fun! I love change like that!!

  • What a cute room! My DD will be 9 this summer and although the walls are still the same color they were when she was a baby (sage green) we updated her bedding about 2 years ago. It’s stripes and polka dots in those bright colors like that. These girls sure do grow up fast!

  • That redo of her room is so pretty! My daughter turns 8 next month and she’s begging me to paint her room fuchsia. I’m scared she will be in an ‘I-hate–pink’ phase soon as well, so I’m not sure if I should do it. I might go with some fuchsia accents like you did!

  • I love that color of teal/aqua! Who makes the paint and what is the name/shade(#)?

    Thanks!

  • What a Lovely room after the remake! Our daughter have just turned eight and she want a monster high room. I finding it hard to find inspiration for that and that´s how I find your page.

Have a nice spring wishes from Sweden!
