A Little Getaway

Hello friends!! Happy Tuesday!! To be honest with you, I am having a really hard time getting back into the swing of things this week!! This past weekend, my husband and I were lucky enough to have a couple of days away. We have been wanting to go to a Sporting Kansas City game all summer long and we finally pulled the trigger and went. My husband is a HUGE soccer fan and I guess it was only a matter of time before I became a soccer fan too!! My dad’s side of the family is originally from the Kansas City area so it was pretty natural for me to become a Sporting KC fan. They happen to be Nate’s favorite team too. We thought it would be fun to have a little getaway with Nate’s brother Nic and his wife Katie since we’re all very close. Let me tell you – it was SO MUCH FUN!! The kind of fun where you laugh so hard it makes your head hurt.

Early Friday morning we dropped the girls off at my in-laws house. I think they were just as excited to stay at Grandma and Grandpa’s house as we were about getting away for a few days!! Then we started on our merry little way. We had a nice, uneventful drive. It was relatively short too since Kansas City is pretty much a straight shot down Interstate 70 from St. Louis. The part of the trip that we were looking forward to the most was going to Schlitterbahn. It’s not very often that we are without kids, so it was awesome to go to a place like a water park and just feel like we were the kids, having a good old time!! We spent about 5 hours there enjoying all of the attractions. I think my favorite attraction there was the King Caw. You get an inner tube and make your way through over 3,000 feet of waterfalls and lakes until  you reach a series of white water rapids and currents. Definitely tons of fun. I only got one picture there and it was right when we were walking in.

We were absolutely exhausted when we left. We had had big plans to get all dressed up and go out to dinner that night, but we ended up getting Chinese food instead and taking it back to our rooms and watching the Opening Ceremonies for the Olympics instead. We stayed at the Westin at the Crown Center and we loved it. It was so nice being so close to everything!! On Saturday morning we showed Nic and Katie around the Crown Center and did a little shopping. My personal favorite store there is the Crayola store. I always go a bit crazy there buying stuff for the girls. Oh who am I kidding? I buy stuff for myself there too!! 🙂 We ate a quick lunch and headed over to the Union Station. What a beautiful place!! The architecture is just stunning in this building!!  Our husbands are very into history (my brother in-law was a history major) and so he and Nate went to the World War 1 museum. Katie and I decided to go back to our rooms to hang out and just rest up for dinner and the soccer game. I thought that Schlitterbahn would be the best part of our trip but I was wrong. The soccer game was an absolute blast. I had never been to a major league soccer game before and I see I’ve been missing out. The crowd was so energetic and funny and so so into the game. My favorite player was injured so that was a bummer I didn’t get to see him play. Kansas City ended up losing and that was a bit of a bummer too, but that didn’t take away from how much fun we had. Nate and I are already planning on going back for one more game this year and I can’t wait. Here are a few pictures from that evening. We had dinner at a restaurant called  Yard House…Yum!!

What a gorgeous soccer park this was!!

I don’t think there was a bad seat in the house!!

Me and my honey after the game.

We drove home on Sunday after doing a little bit of shopping. I was really ready to get home to see our girls but I was also so sad to say good-bye to the fun, fun weekend we had!!
