Social Experiment . . . Would Our Husbands Scrap?

Rebecca shows us the results of a little experiment. Would our hubbies scrap?

Interesting question . . . Could we get out husbands or significant others to sit down and try their hand at creating a layout?  Would they even consider it or would they just flatly refuse? So, the staff here at Sweet Shoppe put this question to the test. And, the results?  Only three of us were able to convince our husbands to give it a try . . . and two were able to persuade their sons to get creative.

It was funny to see the replies from the ladies after they asked their husband’s if they would scrap. I removed the names to protect the reluctant scrappers. 🙂

  • “He didn’t even let me finish the question before he started no-ing!”
  • “He just eyeballed me. o.O”
  • “Maybe if it were life and death he’d do it . . . maybe.”
  • “My boyfriend just gave me a very affirmative . . . NO. LOL.”
  • “I’m not even asking him because it would mean I would have to teach him how to turn on the laptop first.”
  • “I got a big fat ‘NO WAY’.”
  • “Big fat NO here! hehe.”
  • “Mmmm . . . my hubster just sort of gave me that look like I’d been smokin’ the wackytabbacy pipe too long.”
  • “Hahaha – just asked DH. It’s a big fat NO from him . . . ‘not interested in the least degree.’ Lol.”
  • “The hubs: ‘I don’t appear to have the compulsion to do so’.”
  • “My hubby wouldn’t do it even if I begged. He’s lucky to know what photoshop IS, let alone know how to use it.”
  • “The only thing my husband does on a computer is Excel. Forget him for scrapping!”

So, who were the lucky few that took our challenge?

Brook’s husband, Aaron. Brook wrote: “Blood sweat and tears and a LOT of love created this. Pretty sure he is never going to attempt scrapbooking ever again. He hates it. LOL. I find it very amusing. Wish I had thought to video tape it.”

Libby’s husband, Jeff. Libby wrote: “He worked on this all by himself with VERY little help from me (mostly just technical stuff like “how do I make a text box?”). He said he enjoyed it, but it really was a daunting task. He said he didn’t feel confident that he was using the elements correctly, and he wished that he’d known the program a little better.”

Rebecca’s husband, Dave. I wrote: “Dave came up with this idea all himself. He really wanted to show the evolution of my scrapping and how we went from piles of scrapbooking supplies all over the place to him having to upgrade the technology to be able to “hide” all the supplies. He said it was fun, but he won’t do it again. Oh, and he is most proud of his diagonal line!”

Trish’s son, Ryan. Trish wrote: “He’s a dead monster. lol  sorry. he used He Ain’t Heavy by Traci Reed & Libby Pritchett (because he really wanted to use the potty people, lol) and Doodling Freebie Template 1 by Studio Basic.”

Penny’s son, Jackson. Penny wrote: “Jackson scrapped! He used my scoop with Shawna, Make it Count.”

Let’s give these brave souls a hand!! They all did a great job and we are pleased as punch that they gave it a go!  So, do you think you could get the “boys” in your life to sit down and give it a try? I have to say it was exciting to see my husband try, at least . . . and hopefully have a greater appreciation in the pages I create for our family’s legacy. Plus, as a bonus for me . . . he commented on how slow my computer was running and is seeing if it could support more RAM. Win for me!! 😀

So, how did the overall experiment go? I think Brook summed it up the best . . .

“In the case of husbands, it’s not worth it to have them try your hobby. It’s not like them taking us to a shooting range . . . not romantic in the least bit. The one and only positive is that he can now appreciate how much time it takes me, and how much creativity and artistic ability is needed.”

And hopefully be more understanding of the need to buy more Sweet Shoppe Designs products and more time to scrap, right ladies???  😀

  • Introduced the grandkids to digital scrapbooking this summer. The little girls can’t get enough. The boys were only interested in learning how to graft their heads onto troll bodies, monkey bodies, etc. Now the guys just want to get back to Minecraft.

  • These pages are great! I asked my hubby one time if he wanted to try it and he said “No Way!”

  • I’ve asked my hubby once in awhile to try it and of course his answer is “no, you do such a great job.” But he does enjoy suggesting a layout. I feel when he makes a suggestion of a what photos to use, he is scrapping in a way.
