30 Days of Gratitude: Day 16
SugarBabe Natalie shares a fun project she’s thankful for.
I like to do “projects” with my girls. However, they are young. I have a 4 year old and two 2 year olds. Since they are so young, sometimes when I am planning projects or searching Pinterest, I have to file ideas away for future use. A few years ago, a blogging friend did a Thankful tree with her kids and I filed that information away for when my kids were old enough to participate. This year, I decided we were going to try it out. I’m quite a bit of a perfectionist and have high expectations each time we do projects or go on adventures . . . but I told myself that we would just go with the flow and see how it all turned out. I really didn’t think the girls were mature enough to do this, so my husband and I didn’t put a lot of effort into designing the trunk and leaves. We just did it quickly and sat the girls down to discuss what being thankful is. It was a rough beginning, but after we started adding leaves, the girls got very into it. Now they look forward to it each night. We don’t coach their answers, so a lot of their leaves are covered with specific toys (ponies) or things that they can see around the house (like cups), but it’s a wonderful thing to be thankful for these simple things too. I like that we don’t coach their answers . . . our tree displays a true representation of who they are right now. Plus it makes the deep answers like “Jesus” and “Daddy” more meaningful. (I’ve yet to get a “Mommy” answer. . . .) In the end, I’m really impressed with my girls and thankful I decided to do this month long project with them (and that they are participating!). 🙂
