Featured Designer FWP – Wendy van der Ploeg
Happy Friday friends! It’s a new day and we’re debuting a new Featured Designer, Wendy van der Ploeg! Wendy teamed up one of our other talented designers, Blagovesta Gosheva, to create this super fun slumber party kit. Slumber Party is a super sweet, girly kit perfect for documenting those late night chats and giggle fests we all remember from our younger days–when no one really got any sleep but everyone had cute nails. I asked Wendy what inspired her to create Slumber Party and what her design process was. I also asked her what she thinks her strength as a designer is and what she would consider her “signature” . . . or what others would recognize her for. Here’s what she had to say . . .
I was inspired by memories of my own kids. They often have their own mini slumber parties in the attic with a movie, lots of chatter, and some snacks. So I really had to do something with that theme. Aside from that I had been wanting to make a goodnight/sleep themed kit with a fun twist for a long time . . . so here it is. While I was looking for inspiration I had the feeling that I shouldn’t create the kit alone, so I asked one of my friends to make it with me. It was so much fun to create these cute themed elements where the whole kit just flowed.
I don’t know if it is my biggest strength, but I often challenge myself to create something different–to create themes with specific twists or just something I’ve never seen before. Next to that it often happens that I have photos to scrap that I can’t find the perfect kit/theme for, so I look for inspiration and create it myself. These kits often turn out to be bestsellers.
