Featured Designer – Meagan’s Creations

Happy Friday everyone!  What’s new in your little corner of the world?  Spring Break is wrapping up here in Michigan, even if the weather doesn’t seem to agree.  One thing we can agree on is our next featured designer, Meagan of Meagan’s Creations.

Keeping with the festive spirit in mind of our big birthday, our designers decided that a year long celebration of everything that makes our lives special would be the perfect way to keep the party going, “Celebrate YOU!” is the theme that will be inspiring our Featured Designer freebies this year! From your job, to your school, to your favorite holidays and more, we’re celebrating all of life’s memorable moments this year, and Meagan’s kit, Celebrate: Your New Job is an awesome way to celebrate your new job, or maybe you are looking to make a change.  I love this so much!  I know when I changed jobs a few years ago, I scrapped about it, this kit would have been perfect.  Or, maybe you’re celebrating someone else that got a new job, or even their very first job.  I think we all need this one in our stash!

Now, as you know, we love to learn more about our sweet designers, we sent Meagan a list of questions and here is what she had to say.

What is your favorite thing about YOU? Celebrate yourself and sing your own praises! Is there something you’re really good at, something you’re known for, etc? I really love baking and think I’m pretty good at it. My family and friends love my homemade dinner rolls and my kids beg me to make them homemade chocolate cheesecake for their birthdays. My daughter loves German’s chocolate cheesecake specifically. I also love making my own buttercream frosting and get lots of compliments on it when I make birthday cakes for my kids.

What do you find most challenging about designing? With each theme, I try to select a style that will fit the theme the best. There are some collections that look a lot different than others because I like to experiment and try out different styles but it can be tricky making all of these themed elements so that the style meshes throughout the collection. I also want to avoid falling into too strict of a routine or formula so trying to keep each collection unique is a challenge!

Favorite movie of all time? While You Were Sleeping. I can quote that movie all day long and watch it every year. It never gets old!

How far in advance do you start working on your next product? Do you have a list of themes in the queue or do you just decide what feels right from week to week? I try to plan out the theme of each collection about 2-3 months in advance. It helps if I get some ideas during that time and can add them before I work on it. I usually begin a collection about 1 week before it releases. I have some series so I have some ideas of collections I want to add to those series and then I have a list of kit themes that I often add to or look through when I’m trying to decide what to do next. My schedule isn’t a hard-set rule though. If I have something planned but don’t feel like starting on it, I’ll move it to later or take it off my list.

Share a kit or bundle plus the mood board or story that inspired it. One of my favorite recent collections was Naughty List back in December. I saw something on Pinterest (isn’t that always how it goes?) and it just really tickled me. It was so fun to produce this darker Christmas collection with a fun twist.

I just love reading our designer’s interviews and doesn’t that German Chocolate cake look amazing?  I’ve had one of those on my to try recipe list for years!  Maybe I’ll get to it soon! Before I go, our amazing team has created some stunning layouts with Meagan’s kit, time to take a look!
