Baker’s Dozen: February Photo Challenge

Welcome to the month of February, my sweet scrappy friends!

A new month means new challenges, and that includes our Baker’s Dozen photography challenge here at the Sweet Shoppe. Here are thirteen new prompts to inspire your photography in the coming month:

February’s Photo Prompts

A Little Inspiration

Here’s a few ideas to help get you started…

Red and Pink

While grocery shopping, the seasonal aisle caught my eye as the perfect representation of “red and pink”. Whatever your feelings may be about the commercialization of Valentine’s Day, it can make for some fun window-shopping as the 14th draws ever near.

Sweets

These days when it comes to indulging in sweets, I’m trying to focus on quality over quantity. I treated myself to just a couple bites of sweetness alongside my coffee drink in the form of a cake pop. While the inside was a deep, rich chocolate brownie, the outside positively glistened with sugar crystals. It was truly a sweet not only for my taste buds, but my eyes as well.

Mirror

We say that February in Dallas is when Mother Nature goes off her meds. Warm and humid one day, cold and icy the next; we even have days like today where it’s stormy in one direction and blue skies in the other. This shot in the side passenger mirror of our car captures this barometric mood-swing in a single image.

Comfort Food

On this grey and yucky day here in Dallas, I wanted some comfort food, so my husband took me to lunch and I ordered a cup of potato soup loaded with bacon and cheese. Maybe it’s the Irish in me, but few things make me feel as warm and fuzzy as a cup of potato soup!

Handwriting

It can be your own script or the handwriting of someone you love … either way, be sure to capture a photo of it this month. If you don’t journal in longhand, snap a shot of a shopping list or even the short message you jot in a Valentine’s Day card.

From Above

There’s so many images you can capture from a top-down perspective. If you’re struggling to decide what to shoot, think through what you see in the first minute after walking into your home. In my case, it’s inevitably one of the two fur-monsters who live here. And if it’s my one-eyed Morkie, Maggie, she’ll inevitably bring me a stuffed something as a “welcome-home-now-please-throw-this-for-me-to-fetch” gift.

Join us (you could win a free kit!)

I hope you’ll play along with this month’s Baker’s Dozen of photo challenges. Remember, it’s all about being more purposeful about our photography and capturing more images in 2024. As always, I encourage you to share them where you feel comfortable doing so. If you post them on social media, use the hashtag #ssdphotochallenge – and when you scrapbook them, be sure to share your completed layout with us in the Gallery.

We’ve also set up a thread in the SSD Challenges forum for everyone to share their images – and as a bonus, for each photo you post, your name will go in a drawing and one person will win their choice of a kit or template trio or quad from the Shoppe! Congratulations to amyjcaz – aka Amy – our winner for the month of January. Who will be next to win their choice of goodie from the Shoppe? It could be you when you join us in the forum in this thread for February and start sharing your Baker’s Dozen images now.

I’ll see you there!
