Featured Designer – Ponytails Designs

Happy Friday Sweet Shoppers! I hope your week went well and you captured tons of memories to scrap about later. I am loving the weather we’ve been having lately and how late the sun is up – being so far North has its benefits this time of year (maybe not in the dead of winter though…).

Today we have a new Featured Designer, Nat of Ponytails Designs. Nat has so many great things in her store, from fantastic kits in any theme imaginable to great cluster-y templates and kits to scrap everyday photos. If you haven’t taken a look in her store recently you really should!

Before we learn more about Nat, check out her Featured Designer kit, Adventures in my Imagination, part of our Adventure X series. This kit is so fun and what a great colour scheme! From baby pictures to playing and imagining later in life, you will be able to scrap so many photos with this great kit. And the best part is it is FREE with your $10 purchase in the Shoppe between now and when the New Releases go live on June 28th.

Nat also designed a whole bunch of add-ons that go perfectly with the kit. So many perfect cards, and those flair and extra alphas and elements – this is like a whole extra kit. What better way to get the above kit free than by buying the add ons and getting the whole lot?

And now to learn a bit more about Nat!

Tell us about your journey with digital scrapbooking… How did you find out about it? Did you start with paper first? How did you get started designing? Where was your first shop? How and when did you end up at Sweet Shoppe Designs?

I started as a paper scrapper a long ago, but was limited by time (I had three young children at the time), money, and space to put everything.  I loved the idea of scrapbooking but the thought of putting a sticker in the “wrong” place, for example, would make me freeze in indecision.  Then a friend showed me a scrapbook she’d made on her computer and that was it for me!  I started scrapbooking with a simple program (I forget the name at this point) and then graduated to Photoshop.  It wasn’t long before I was trying to make this stuff on my own!

How do you stay motivated or deal with the loss of mojo?

When I’m feeling a lack of motivation to design, I’ll try to go back to what I love and spend some time scrapping my own pages.  That usually gets me excited about this hobby again, and then I find myself feeling more motivated to design again as well.

Where do you find inspiration for a new kit or template?

Music and song lyrics are huge for me… I’ll be listening to a song and think, “Wow, I could do something with that!”  Otherwise, it’s fairly random.  Pictures, books, images I see, even funny things the kids and grandkids do… it’s all inspiring to me.  For example, this cartoon below made me laugh and so I saved it in my ideas folder.  It eventually became the inspiration for my collection, Between Coffee and Wine.  I have all sorts of images like this, just waiting to be developed into something.

Are you an adventurous person?  What has been your greatest adventure?

I’m not super adventurous, but I do love to travel and see new things.  I think the coolest thing I’ve ever done was swim with the stingrays at Grand Cayman.  I didn’t get a great picture with the stingray, but this is me on the right facing the dark blur underwater, which is a nice big stringray.

Would you rather go on a relaxing vacation or an adventure hike?

Beach, please!

Are there any adventures you’d like to go on in the future?

Future adventures will definitely involved travel. I’d love to get to Europe and see the places I’ve read so much about!

If you had an hour to yourself, but were not allowed to use it to scrapbook or design, what would you spend the hour doing?

I’d be reading a good book, hopefully on a beach somewhere!

What is your current desktop or cell phone wallpaper? Why did you choose that image?

It’s actually a tropical beach scene of a wave coming over the sand.  Maybe you can sense a theme with me?  I love the ocean and the beach, especially tropical ones!  (I can’t figure out how to actually get the image off my phone, so the description will have to do.)

What song(s) are playing in the soundtrack of your life?

There’s definitely some 80’s rock in there, as well as some country and classic rock.  One of my all-time favourites is Walking on Sunshine, by Katrina and the Waves.  It’s my happy song!

Me and my awesome 80’s girl hair!!

Before you go, check out this inspiration from the SugarBabes, who have, as always, done such a great job with this Featured Designer kit.

That’s it for today – come back next Friday to see which 15 products Nat has chosen to discount heavily for her Featured Designer 15 sale, you won’t want to miss it! Until then, keep on scrapping!
