Long Term Projects: Fighting the Monotony
We create habits for all types of things in our lives: from daily schedules to exercise routines. Habits are beneficial for us and have evolved over time for the ability of our survival as humans. We settle into our habits so that we are ready to respond to new things and new environments. This helps us continue pushing toward innovation and exploration. Without this we may have never landed on the moon or left the caves and created cities.
Boredom always precedes a period of great creativity.

Despite habits being so beneficial to our lives we often “feel” bored after a period of time once we’ve adapted to those habits. That’s because emotions are an inherent ability while thinking is a newer ability for us humans. So, we can “know” something is better for us but have trouble feeling that is true.
How do we get over being bored? This summer it seems like this has become the topic of discussion for project life scrappers in our community as well. I thought there be a few more of you out there that might need some ideas on fighting the monotony.
Tips for Fighting the Monotony
- take a break – a simple as this sounds it’s true, often we just need to step away from something for a while and come back to enjoy it again
- keep it simple – Sugarbabe Krista mentions that recently she’s been looking back at older PL pages and finding that she really enjoyed her more simpler pages and has decided that she wants to get back to that, and sometimes less is more
- mix it up – Sugarbabe Ally became bored with her normal weekly pages and started weekly garden pages. Mixing it up can help break up the feelings of boredom.
- introduce variety – Take it a step further and go off script for your page design, try out some new templates to switch up your normal long term project pages. Here’s a couple of template packs I found that might spark some inspiration.
- practice gratitude – Imagine a life without the things you currently have. Many times, it just takes a moment to remember all we have to be thankful for to appreciate how truly blessed we are to be able to document them.
I hope that this article helps you on your long term projects. Until next time, happy scrapping xo Kiana.
