Sweet Talk Babe Edition with: Jaye

Hey everyone, Sweet Talk is back for 2024 with a slightly new format but the same awesome goal. Getting to know YOU, our amazing community members. Once a month we will indulge in some “sweet talk” and have some fun getting to know you all a little bit better. This month is a fun twist where we get to know one of our amazing Sugarbabes.

“Getting to know a diverse group of people leads to a better understanding of yourself.” — Alexander Den Heijer

Without further ado let’s dive into this month’s Sweet Talk interview with our amazing Sugarbabe: Jaye

Welcome to Sweet Talk, give us a short introduction of yourself/family and how you found digital scrapbooking.

I am from a little town at the mouth of Lake Erie and the Detroit River in Southern Ontario. There is just me, my son, and of course the chocolate wonder, Harlow. During the day I work as a Youth Worker at our local high school and have done so for 30+ years. I am currently trying to decide what I want to do next.
I found scrapbooking quite by accident. I was playing around with IncrediMail and making backgrounds for myself when I stumbled across a few free sites and designers. I have seen the beginning and the end of a few stores along the way but made SSD my home quite a few years ago. The rest they say is history!

Answer a few fun questions for us.

  1. Give us [3] must haves for the layouts you create? I must have foliage, flowers, and string.
  2. What is your scrapping style?  I don’t know if I have a specific style per se but I can say I am a single photo scrapper and usually do a lot of white space.
  3. What is your favorite thing to snack on when scrapping? I have worked hard at ending my snacking so I am more likely to have water or a mug of tea while I am scrapping.
  4. How do you create so many pages during big events? I dropped the ball during DSD this year as I was busy and/or sick. Usually, I get ‘in the mood’ and the pages just come. I prepare a dinner that won’t take long and sit in my nest with the tv on and scrap away.
  5. As a Babe, do you still have challenges or struggles with scrapping? Oh yes! Sometimes it is the good old mojo that just up and leaves me. I have had many nights where I open PS and just stare at it. I sometimes struggle with very themed kits and of course templates with lots of photos. I try to do the best I can with those.
  6. What hobbies do you have besides scrapbooking? I love to read and photography. My photography has taken a back seat but I want to get back out as I won’t get better without practice. I just bought myself a mirrorless system and have been enjoying that.
  7. What techniques, trends, or products are inspiring you right now? I am thinking of delving into planners and using my digi stash to fancy up my new planner. Use that Cricut I have sitting around collecting dust.

And of course, we love some Babe inspiration so please share with us your favorite layouts featuring the below & tell us why you chose them:

  • •a cool technique
    journaling in a shape

  • •your favorite element(s)
wood background, flowers, foliage, ribbon, and string

  • •your choice
This page is a perfect view of my style I guess. I love this page because I remember the day and how I felt. I am always very excited when I get a good photo of a female cardinal.

Before you go, share with us a favorite tip you’ve learned over the years: Scrap your style, whatever that may be, and don’t feel you have to stick with just one. Explore and try new techniques, and don’t be afraid to scraplift a scrapper you admire and put your spin on it. Take your time and don’t feel pressured to just pump out pages, create the page for you.Don’t be afraid to ask questions. ♥

Thank you Jaye for sharing with us. Until next time, happy scrapping. xo Kiana
