Featured Designer – WendyP Designs

Happy Friday Sweet Shoppers! It’s mid October already – before we know it it’ll be holiday season and we’ll be ringing in a new year – crazy how fast time flies! We are gearing up for Halloween in our house, with decorations outside and plans to attend a duelling Pianos Halloween party the weekend after Halloween. I love this time of year!

It’s also time for a new Featured Designer kit, from the fabulous Wendy of WendyP Designs. I have been a huge fan of Wendy’s designs for so long – her kits are always stuffed full of the perfect amount of themed elements with so many flowers and traditional elements to use the kits for all sorts of off-theme pages. Her store is so full of kits about every theme you can think of, if you haven’t visited her store lately check it out and see what’s new! There’s also some great templates to go with her great kits.

Before we learn more about Wendy, check out her Featured Designer kit, A Samhain Adventure. If you’re not familiar with Samhain, it’s defined as a Gaelic festival on 1 November marking the end of the harvest season and beginning of winter or “darker half” of the year (Wikipedia). Not just a kit about Halloween and All Saints’ Day, this kit is perfect for any of your fall themed pages and the magic of witchcraft. Best of all, it’s FREE with your $10 purchase between now and when the new releases go live on November 1st.

Wendy also has these great add-ons to coordinate with this kit. What better way to get the kit for free than by picking up all the extra pieces to complete the set? The extras bundle includes so many great extra elements, papers, alphas, cards, you really can’t go wrong!!

Now to learn more about Wendy and her adventures!

Tell us about your journey with digital scrapbooking… How did you find out about it? Did you start with paper first? How did you get started designing? Where was your first shop? How and when did you end up at Sweet Shoppe Designs?

Back in 2007 when my eldest was born I started paper scrapping. 1-2 years later I discovered that there was digital scrapbooking. I found it much cheaper than traditional and it was much cleaner. Back in 2009 I started designing templates first, but in 2010 I felt inspired to start making my own scrap kits. I instantly fell in love with it and started to make more and more kits only. My first shop was 7th Heaven, but that shop sadly closed a long time ago. In November of 2016 I was very lucky to join Sweet Shoppe Designs. I still love to be here and still love to design and scrap, but I’m sure you have noticed both sides of me.

What comes first when designing… theme or color palette?

I always start with a theme first. When I made a decision about that I choose colors which will fit in my feeling about the chosen theme.

Show us a recent mood or inspiration board… or two.

This is the mood board I made for my featured collection. I had a strong feeling I wanted to do something Celtic this time round that fit the fall/October theme.

What’s your most memorable childhood adventure?

My most memorable childhood adventure was an adventure when I was five years old I think. I was scared like crazy, which is why I still remember it. Me and my family visited some friends in Belgium who had kids around our own age, anyway they had a huge chicken area and one of the kids asked me to help grab some eggs. So I climbed into the area and once I was at the chicken house I got chased by a huge rooster. When I think about it now I think I was so scared about the rooster because I was so small myself so the rooster was as big as I was.

Are there any adventures you’d like to go on in the future?

I really hope or wish i could visit the US and Canada once. The US because of the beautiful states and nature but also to visit my scrap and design friends. I would love to visit Canada too to meet my friends and family there. I have some family living close to Kristin.

Given the choice, would you pick an indoor or outdoor adventure?

I would choose an outdoor adventure, I just LOVE nature and being outside!

What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve done recently?

It depends on how you define adventurous. Last Monday I went to Amsterdam to meet my longest digiscrap friend for the first time. For some reason I was really nervous because in real life it is different from chatting on messenger and zoom. But last Monday I met Valentina from Vale(Valentina) Creations after a friendship of 14 years. We dreamed and wished about it for a very long time but now we finally did. She is from Italy and was on vacation here for a few days. We had so much fun together, laughed, talked and hugged a lot!!

You can see her designs from my collaboration with her called Be Faithful, which will be on sale during my featured designer sale.

What is your current desktop or cell phone wallpaper? Why did you choose that image?

My cellphone wallpaper is our Storm who passed away a few years ago. I don’t want to change it yet.

Do you have hobbies other than scrapbooking, photography, or memory keeping?

Other hobbies I have other than scrapbooking are:

  • Crafting things with my cricut or regular crafting, I plan to make some macrame gnomes for in our Christmas tree soon.
  • Gardening, we have a very small garden so I have vegetables in different kinds of pots and small fruit bushes which are also perfect for balconies. Next to that I had some tomato plants in my garden too, which was a huge hit. Also I just planted a cherry tree that keeps being small and a raspberry bush. But both need to grow for multiple years before they give much fruit.
  • Baking and cooking, trying new recipes and spices.

I sure hope Wendy gets to go on her adventure to Canada, I live close to her relatives too, and it would be amazing to meet her in person!

Check out these great pages the SugarBabes made with Wendy’s Featured Designer kit, they are so inspiring and so pretty!

That’s it for today – come back next Friday to check out which 15 products Wendy has chosen for her Featured Designer 15 sale that starts October 29th. Until then – keep on scrapping!
