December 9 – Christmas Card Day
Greetings, joyful crafters! Can you believe it’s only 16 days until Christmas? Astonishing, isn’t it?
Today, let’s take a moment to remember Henry Cole, the British businessman who, back in 1843, was too busy to pen individual Christmas letters to his friends, family, and contacts. His innovative thinking led to the invention of the Christmas card, complete with a festive greeting inside.
I fondly recall how my mom used to display all the Christmas cards we received, adorning the archway between our living room and kitchen. I would often pause to appreciate the various shapes, sizes, and designs. It makes me a little sad that the tradition of sending and receiving physical Christmas cards has waned over the last two decades, largely due to the rise of social media. It would be wonderful to witness a revival of exchanging cards through snail mail! Keeping this in mind, I’ve devised a super quick and easy method to spread holiday joy with a simple, handmade Christmas card.
Our store is overflowing with incredible Christmas kits, featuring journal cards that are perfect for the front of a Christmas card! I printed each card to about 3.5″ x 4.75″ and layered them onto slightly larger pieces of matching cardstock or scrapbook paper. Utilizing printed papers from the kits for the second layer is also effective! Afterward, I secured both layers to a card base. The beauty of these handmade cards is that they can be easily personalized.
