Featured Designer – Laura Wilkerson

Happy Friday Sweet Shoppers! I hope your week and holiday went well! We are well fed, and our hearts are happy after spending the week with family. I hope this next week and the end of the year are great for everyone, with lots of memories to be made!

Today I get to introduce our newest featured designer, Laura Wilkerson. Laura’s kits are full of custom doodles and her style is so distinctive, you always know when Laura’s been drawing up a storm! I love that her store has so much variety, and the themes are often so unique, touching on the tough parts of life as well as all the fun and happy parts!

Laura’s featured designer kit – Adventures in Space – is no exception, it is so much fun. The space theme is great for all your STEM pages, pages about the planet, pretend or real pages and about people in your life that are out of this world. It’s a great addition to our Adventure X series of Featured Designer kits this year, and don’t forget it’s FREE with your $10 purchase between now and January 10th.

And now to learn more about Laura!

Tell us about your journey with digital scrapbooking… How did you find out about it? Did you start with paper first? How did you get started designing? Where was your first shop? How and when did you end up at Sweet Shoppe Designs?

Before I started digital scrapbooking in 2008, I created forum signatures and blinkies for friends and their small businesses. Before I joined the team at Sweet Shoppe, I sold my designs at Scrap Orchard. I was lucky enough to meet a lot of members of our community at some of our meetups in Las Vegas and then in Texas. One of my internet turned real life besties is our very own Cheryl Ashcraft!

How do you define your style? What does that style include? How has your style changed over the years?

Most of my products include doodled elements. I think what has changed in my style over the years is my level of confidence.

Show us a recent mood or inspiration board… or two.

Basically a Detective came from my love of all things true crime:

And my kit “I Do” was inspired by my little sister’s wedding theme and colors:

How long does it take you to put a collection together from start to finish?

Once I start a kit, it takes me anywhere from 2 days to a week to finish. If I’m really inspired, I don’t like to get up until I’m done!

Are you an adventurous person?  What has been your greatest adventure?

I am so NOT an adventurous person. My husband could tell you all about how much of a chicken I am. He’s the thrillseeker in our relationship, that’s for sure. Here’s us at a birthday party that had a petting zoo of sorts:

Given the choice, would you pick an indoor or outdoor adventure?

Listen. I don’t like to be cold. Or too hot. Or to be around bugs. Take a guess LOL!

Would you rather go on a relaxing vacation or an adventure hike?

I would definitely rather go on a relaxing vacation. Our favorite vacation spot is Aruba!

If you could go on a date but only had $25 to spend, where would you go?

Either Goodwill (thrift store) or Portillo’s Hot Dogs for a beef sandwich and fries.

What’s the last really great book you read or tv show you watched?

How about a movie? My husband and I recently watched Speak No Evil with James McAvoy and thought it was really good. Creepy but good!

What was your first job?

My first job at age 15 was at a small family owned restaurant called Bartolini’s in my hometown of Midlothian, IL. Since then, their business has grown and they’ve even been on several TV shows.

Here’s what Laura’s team has to say about her designs:

I love Laura’s designs for her sticker style. She makes the best playful elements adding both charm and personality to any scrapbook layout.” -Léa

“Laura is so amazingly talented. I am absolutely in love with all her hand drawn elements as well as her gorgeous patterned papers. She has a wide variety of themed kits that range from bright and sweet to murderous mayhem. If you’ve never tried one of Laura’s collections, run and add one (or two or three) to your shopping cart. You’ll be getting true originality and the look and feel of handmade kits.” -Cheryl
