Featured Designer – Studio Flergs

Happy Friday Sweet Shoppers! I hope your week was lovely and filled with all sorts of memories. I’m super happy about time change this weekend – of course I don’t want to lose an hour, but I always feel like the shift to summer hours makes me feel better and less tired (once I get used to it). Unpopular opinion, but I’m looking forward to it!

I am beyond thrilled to introduce our newest Featured Designer, the amazing Megan of Studio Flergs! If you love bold vibrant colours that make your memories shine then you’re in the right place! Megan’s designs are pure magic—her elements are always on point, and her Disney-inspired kits will have you scrapping about your magical vacations and hobbies so easily! Her kits add a touch of enchantment to everyday moments and make it effortless to layer, create, and make your photos POP—no matter the theme!

Megan also created these coordinating extras to complete the collection. Check out this great Add-on including stickers, cards, flowers and shimmer papers!

And now to learn more about Megan!

Tell us about your journey with digital scrapbooking… How did you find out about it? Did you start with paper first? How did you get started designing? Where was your first shop? How and when did you end up at Sweet Shoppe Designs?
I started paper scrapping when my son was born back in 2002. And I remember looking at ideas on 2peas for layouts & noticed some gorgeous digital pages that were just stunning. After having my daughter in 2006 I found that I just had no time for paper scrapping, so a friend suggested digital. I found DST the digital scrapping forum & I was hooked! My first designer I loved was Miss Mint, Peppermint Creations & I think I bought everything she released. Then I started to give away a few blog freebies & take part in blog trains as a fun little hobby. Someone at a store approached me & I opened my first store in 2008. I was known as the glitter queen for a while for my glitter styles. I have been selling my designs for 17 years now, and have been at Sweet Shoppe for an amazing 12 years. I did apply for a call many years ago but I got cold feet & pulled my application. I always regretted that decision, and years later I reached out to Robin to see if there was a spot for me and she said yes! Joining SSD was the best thing I ever did and I have made digital designing my full time job.

Where do you see your designs going in the future? Is your focus changing in any way?

I have definitely been drawing with the pen tool more in kits lately. The more I use the pen tool, the better I get and I love to try and have unique hand drawn pieces in my kits wherever possible and if time permits. Also trying to stay away from CU as much as possible as now everything is AI generated and that’s not a path I want my designs to take.

How do you stay motivated or deal with the loss of mojo?

This is definitely a struggle for me lately. After a stay in hospital last year I have had a lot of sickness & struggles with changes in medications which really have affected my mojo & drive. Pinterest is always a help, craft stores, anything can really spark an idea. I save a lot of inspiration when I find it so that I can look at it when I need a mojo boost.

How do you know when a product is “finished”?

I just do, I just feel it is right. I don’t look at numbers of papers & ellies. I just keep going until I feel like it is well rounded. I always do the papers first, but sometimes I create a texture or pattern after the papers that I use in the ellies & I like to go back & add a couple of papers to match afterwards. The featured designer kit I created is huge because I just couldn’t finish, I kept adding more.

Would you rather go on a relaxing vacation or an adventure hike?

Definitely relaxing. I’m a menopausal woman in her 50’s that could honestly sleep all day long if I had the chance. Zero energy, zero motivation, aches, pains, hot flashes, brain fog, short fuse… you name it! I don’t know how my poor husband puts up with me at the moment.

If you had an hour to yourself, but were not allowed to use it to scrapbook or design, what would you spend the hour doing?

Definitely watching TV while scrolling on my phone, I do that every night to wind down before bed. I hate Tik Tok but I can’t help myself, I have to watch every night before bed and see what the latest rabbit hole to go down will be.

What is your current desktop or cell phone wallpaper? Why did you choose that image?

I have a gorgeous AI paper creation that I saw on Pinterest & I just loved it. It is green like my phone & has a bit of gold & sparkle that I love.

What’s the last really great book you read or tv show you watched?
I watch a lot of TV while I work and it is really hard to choose. But I have to say an Australian series called Black Snow was really addictive and just the sort of thriller crime I love to watch. Really hoping for more seasons of this one to come out and I am hoping to find it is a book series I can read instead perhaps.

Check out these pages that the SugarBabes made with Create Some Magic – just in case you needed any more inspiration to love it!

That’s it for today – come back next Friday to get a sneak peek at the 15 products Megan has picked for her Featured Designer 15 sale that starts March 18th. Until then – keep on scrapping!
