Word Art Hybrid Project

Hi creative friends!

Today I wanted to share another Cricut hybrid project using a few of the awesome word art pieces available in the shoppe. I used Digital Scrapbook Ingredients Hopes and Dreams stamps (retired) to create these cute signs.

For this project, I used Cricut brand removable vinyl. I prefer removable vinyl for these types of projects for a few reasons. It offers the flexibility to make changes for a fresh start if needed, (because if I’m being very honest, not every project comes out successful!) Using removable vinyl also provides opportunity to change up the word art quickly and easily.

I uploaded the word art into Design Space as a flat image and set the operation type to “basic cut“. I then made sure the image was the right size for the frame. From that point, I clicked “make” and followed each step that Cricut provides.

The base material used was set to premium vinyl and the pressure used was at the default setting.

Once the cut has been made, the next step is to “weed” the vinyl. (Weeding is the act of removing all the excess material from the lettering that are cut-to-shape.) The below photo shows the outer portion of the vinyl already weeded out, the smaller portions inside of the letters will be weeded out next.

After weeding is complete, the image is applied to Cricut transfer tape. Transfer tape is basically a sticky carrier sheet that allows you to carefully place and position adhesive vinyl to the surface of your project.

After peeling the backing off of the transfer tape, I was ready to place the word art on the surface.

Once I had the image positioned, I used a flat-edged tool to burnish the lettering. Doing so ensures a strong adhesion of the vinyl letters to the surface (the transfer tape is designed to not stick to the surface). The next step was to peel away the transfer tape – … and done!

Here are a few collections that would also work perfectly for this type of project:

Amour a Paris Sentiments by Simple Pleasures Designs

Farmer’s Market by Ponytails

Thanks a lot for stopping by today – I hope you’ve found a bit of inspiration!

Until next time, happy crafting!! Jill
