Featured Designer Faves – On A Whimsical Adventure

Hello Sweet Shoppers! It’s Friday and i’m back with our current Featured Designer, Anja of On A Whimsical Adventure! She has a collab with Ru (Studio Basic) & Krystal Hartley that’s free with every $10 purchase through this Thursday so grab it while you can. Denim & Lace can help document those denim-filled days and add a touch of shabby chic-ness to every page.

I  asked her to share some of her favorite scoops & products with you guys. Here are the amazing kits she picked along with some inspiration I was able to find from our Babes!

I asked Anja how she has grown as a designer since joining the SSD team, how her creativity’s stretched when she collabs with others, where she finds inspiration and how her process works with designing. Here’s what she had to say…

I have learned a lot from the other designers in so many ways. Not only have I learned to plan better (though planning will never be my strongest point), but I think I have also become more productive ànd faster. I have learned a few tips and tricks from the best about what to add and what not to add, about designing in general. Seeing how productive the other designers are is pushing me further! We talk a lot behind the scenes and that’s great; I know that if I have a question, the team is always there to help. Being at Sweet Shoppe also made me revamp older kits that I’m bringing over. Some of my older kits are not representative anymore for what I’m doing today, and I’ve added more elements to them, I usually always add at least one alpha now, and I’ve learned that journal cards are important… so I try to add those too. I also think my previews look better than before and I’m changing all my previews in my Etsy store too because I now like a cleaner look, with more space for the kit or the pack in the preview. I had so much fun updating my older kits by the way. Going through those older packs made me realize how much I have grown in my designing and how much I have evolved over the course of just a few months.

I had to think of this collab I did with Rachel a few weeks ago. I was struggling bad with the more ‘abstract’ theme… I was surprised by it. Themed kits are fairly easy to do but a theme like ‘Never Enough Hours’… well no, it didn’t come that easily to me. But I talked to Rachel a lot and I didn’t give up, and still managed to come up with something good. I don’t think I would have made a similar kit if I had not scooped with Rachel and if I had not struggled through it. I’ve also learned from the others, that even they struggle sometimes… that it is something that happens to the best.

I start with a theme. Then I pick the colours and I look for inspiration. I also ‘brainstorm’ with myself and write down what I want to include in the kit… Next are the solids. And after that, I go where creativity takes me. Either I make the patterns first, or I create the elements… Or I go from one thing to another. As for inspiratin, it could be anything… a colour scheme, or a mood board I see on Pinterest, or a theme from a fairytale… Pinterest is very important to me for inspiration. I have a few blogs that I follow too.

And with that, we’ll see you here next week when we put a brand new featured designer into the spotlight. Until then, happy scrapping friends & have a great weekend!
