30 Days of Gratitude: Day 14

SugarBabe Brook shares how thankful she is for friends.

I am so thankful for friends!

Let me just start by admitting that I am not the easiest person to be friends with. I lean heavily towards solitude, mostly because it’s easier for me. I don’t call enough, I forget birthdays sometimes, and I don’t always think to reach out. I can get lost in my imagination, activities, thoughts, and day-to-day stuff and too easily miss opportunities connect with others. I am friendly and love to be with people . . . once I get over the hurdle of calling, planning a meet-up, inviting, reaching out. So many times I find myself thinking, “wow, I could have invited so-and-so to join us here at the (fill in the blanks: park, movies, beach, pool, restaurant, etc.).” But, it’s always after the fact. Too late! Ah! This frustrates me! I am an extrovert trapped in an introvert. LOL.

As the Holidays approach, I think about my buddies so much more than usual. For some reason, fall and winter are my favorite seasons for meeting up with friends and getting together. Maybe it’s the cooler weather? The laid-back coziness of just sitting over a yummy warm cup of coffee chatting together? The focus on giving? My thoughts turn to thankfulness, gratitude, what I value in life, what’s most important, and friends are a big part of those thoughts. It’s so important to be with people, making connections and living life together. I know this. I just so easily forget this in the everyday bustle!

Here are some fun friendship reminders…

I love Winnie the Pooh! He’s a pretty cool guy, simple and profound. I thought of him and his quirky friends immediately and grabbed these knick-knacks off the shelf to pose for this quote. I especially love what Pooh has to say about friendship. This quote about not waiting for others to come to you hits home for me! He reminds us we have to remember to go to them sometimes. No more hiding in your corner! 😉

A childhood favorite of mine, Gyo Fujikawa’s ‘What a Busy Day!’ has a lot to say about friendship. This page shares an honest truth about best friends . . . they fight sometimes, disagree, but then they always come back to each other. It’s not always easy being friends! I’m so thankful for my friends who can stick through the hard times with me and tolerate my opinionated and argumentative tendencies. But that’s what so refreshing about true friendship, isn’t it? We can be vulnerable, honest and disagree, but in the spirit of friendship we never reject the other person. Friendship is our bond.

And this one from my favorite childhood movie, The Jungle Book. *sigh* It’s so great! This book was a great find of mine from the thrift store a year or so ago. I love the pictures inside, especially this one of Baloo and Mowgli playing together. Baloo is a true friend to Mowgli, he loves him and would lay down his life for him. Do you have a friend like that? My thoughts immediately go to a BIG thing I’m thankful for . . . that baby King born on Christmas. I personally can believe in this kind of friendship because of Him. I know that this is the kind of friend I should be towards others, like Baloo. The kind of friend who completely loves, unselfishly, and would give wholeheartedly. *warm fuzzies*

I am so very thankful for friends this month, and all year long!
