Thursday Treats – Stress Awareness 11/4

“The time to relax is when you don’t have time for it,” wrote columnist Sydney J. Harris. And if that catch-22 isn’t the perfect definition of our modern stress-filled life, I’m not sure what is.

National Stress Awareness Day falls on the first Wednesday in November. Sponsored by the International Stress Management Association, its purpose is to increase public awareness and help people recognize, manage and reduce stress in their personal and professional lives.

According to WebMD, stress is our body’s physical, mental, and/or emotional reaction to pressure from a particular situation or event. Common triggers include job, family, health, or financial issues. While not all stress is bad, “if you let your stress spiral on for too long, it can have damaging effects on your physical, mental, and emotional health.”

So in honor of Stress Awareness Day, today’s Thursday Treats feature kits about stress management & self-care. Pour yourself a glass of your favorite beverage, turn on some relaxing music, and take a few minutes to consider making your next layout with one of these stress-free kits:

In their article on National Stress Awareness Day, Meritage Medical Network offers up eight stress-relief strategies. They include:

  • Yoga and meditation,
  • Exercise,
  • Focusing on healthy eating,
  • Making sure you get enough good sleep,
  • and finding time for hobbies or other enjoyable activities.

So the next time you sit down to create a scrapbook layout, you’re not only recording your family’s memories, but you’re also investing in your health by relieving stress. That’s what I’d call a win-win!
