Sweet Projects: A New Year Overview

At the start of the new year we often look for projects to tackle or make resolutions for things to change in our lives or goals to complete. Us digital scrapbookers are no different. Every year many of us look to the new year to embark into the wonderful world of the yearly project. Ready to fill those albums full of memories with new beginnings, new events, and new life.

“New year is the glittering light to brighten the dream-lined pathway of the future.” — Munia Khan

Recently, our forum started chattering away with posts of scrapping goals for 2024. Members excited or inquiring about what people were going to be working on or towards for the new year. Those wanting examples chimed in, those asking about general goals for the year, and some chatting about one little word for the year too. I’ll be honest and say most of this has never truly crossed my mind. I don’t often scrap with a true goal in mind, other than to be creative in scrapping our family memories, or as a creative outlet. I’ve never gotten into these long-term projects but I find them interesting and that is I wanted to write more about them here. To share what I find, to inspire others, and possibly inspire myself to tackle one of these projects one day.

Sweet Shoppe houses a Long-Term project gallery teeming with inspiration from those wonderful scrappers and Babes that take on projects every year and I’ve found so many beautiful sights to behold there. I just had to share a bit as I talk about some of the various projects. Before I share some of the eye candy, I did find some helpful blogs around SSD land that might help you along your way as well. Sweet Tips: Catch up on Project Life or Planning for Scrapping Success

Project Life or P52 is the year long project where scrappers take on the task of documenting their lives on a weekly basis, hence the P52. Our resident Babes, Ally and Krista do this every year and churn out weekly spreads of beautiful magnitudes. Pocket pages work best for this since they tend to have muliple photos from the week to showcase and want to include along with a bit or a lot of journaling of what took place. Here’s a few pages of inspiration from the gallery:

P12 Addendum or a reduced version of project life. Maybe P52 is too big of a task for you or perhaps your life isn’t that active any longer. Scaling back the P52 to a something more managable could be P12 or project monthly. Creating one monthly spread of your month in a pocket page of the highlights or of one main event to capture the month for your albums. This is what Babe Krista has done here in these two pages, one for her June 2017 album and one for her January 2013 album.

December Daily is a mini project that is done monthly in December where scrappers document each day for the month of December or leading up to Christmas. This is more open to interpretation for the scrappers style and can be done in various sizes for printing purposes of your albums. From traditional holidays pages overflowing to more understated flip books the idea here is to fit this into your busy holiday schedule as you see fit. I found some awesome inspiration too.

Other great projects I’ve seen around digiland include: 30 Days of Thanks and this is much like December Daily only done during November and centers around gratitude. Document all that you are thankful for during the month of November each day. This can be done using weekly spreads or daily, in whatever format works best for you. Maybe you love the idea of vacation albums, or travel albums because you do lots of traveling. Perhaps you need to work on your children’s baby albums, repurposing the P12 above could work for baby’s first 12 months. The smaller December Daily album in a flip book style could work for a recipe card album if you have a ton of recipe cards you want to preserve for future generations. Of course, an All About Me album is included here too, whether that means it’s about You or another person you know.

There’s a ton of different projects that I’m sure I missed since I mostly scrap creatively. If you have projects that you’ve done, feel free to share in the comments. Hopefully I’ve helped you and given some good info here. Until next time, happy scrapping.

  • This is great information Kiana – thanks for rounding it all up! I think sometimes I like making plans more than I like executing them, especially when it comes to scrapbooking projects. This year, though, I’m determined to make progress on our Key Memories albums (essentially a P12 project) and my All About Me album.

  • lol, I think we are planners Angie. I know I am. Which is probably why I don’t tackle these kinds of projects.
