Changing The Color of Paint or Stamps in Photoshop and Photoshop Elements

Hello, Julie here with an easy tutorial on changing colors of paint or stamps in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. I’ll be focusing on changing the color of my Paint Wash product, but you can use this technique for stamps, doodles, and more.

Step by Step instructions for Photoshop Elements

(see below for Photoshop instructions)

1. Open background (or layout) and desired paint wash.

2. Add paint wash above the background. If you have a layout in progress, you can add paint wash directly to the layout- just make sure you put the paint wash immediately above the background so you aren’t covering up any elements.

3. Select background color by clicking color box in the tools palette and then clicking directly on the base color of the background paper.

4. Go to Edit-Fill Layer to bring up color changing menu.

5. Check “preserve transparency”. Other settings are the default.

6. Change the opacity to make the paint more or less subtle as desired. You can use paint wash with light backgrounds too! Here is another example.

Paint Wash will let you have fun using patterned backgrounds on your layouts! No more journaling and titlework lost in the background pattern. Use the different sizes of Paint Wash to achieve the effects you desire! You can also use these techniques to make stamps and doodles the colors you want. Instead of coloring them the same color as your background, just choose a color that compliments your layout. Enjoy!
