Hi Sweet Shoppers! Lydia here to show you a simple little trick that I use all the time to recolor elements, especially paint and stamps. It’s quick, easy to adjust, and simple to apply to several layers. Here’s a recent layout I did using Erica’s Happy Homemaker kit:
I want to recolor the stamped alpha to match the soft green color of the elements in the layout.
First, I click on the layer of the first letter that I want to recolor.
Next, I choose Color Overlay from the Layer Style menu.
This brings up the Color Overlay dialog box. To change the color of the element, I click on the color block in the box:
This brings up the Color Picker dialog box.
Hovering my mouse over my layout makes the eye dropper tool appear. Now, I simply click on the color that I would like to use to recolor the element. In this example I want to use a soft green color:
I like the color here, but I want it to be just a bit more vivid, so I’m going to change the Blend Mode to Hard Light:
Here’s the result after changing the Blend Mode:
Now, I just need to apply the Color Overlay style to the rest of my letters. This is easy to do by right clicking on the layer that has already been recolored and choosing Copy Layer Style:
Now I select all the other layers that I want to recolor (Ctrl+click/Cmd+click on each layer in the Layers palette), right click, and choose Paste Layer Style:
This is the result:
Super easy! And, if I wanted to change the color again, I could easily double click on the layer to bring up the Layer Style dialog box and quickly choose a new color and then paste it to all the other layers. And, by playing with the blend modes and opacity controls, there are all sorts of options right at my finger tips.
