Let’s talk fonts!

Hi everyone! This is Sari and we are going to talk a little about typography and fonts. I recently was able to attend a Photoshop Seminar by the one and only Scott Kelby. One of the topics discussed was typography and it’s impact on graphic design. I found it fascinating and it got me thinking about how typography is also relevant in digital scrapbooking.

If you are like me, you have acquired a large collection of fonts as a digital scrapbooker. If you need help installing all those fonts you’ve downloaded, there is a some info at Font Shop to help both Mac and Windows users.

Some of my favorite resources for great (and many free) fonts are Fonts for Peas, My Fonts.com and
Da Font. If there is a specific font you are looking for but you don’t know the name, you can try sites like Identifont to identify it.

The fonts you choose can have a big impact on your pages. Some tips for using typography in your pages:

– Use different styles of one font to add contrast to your title. For example: one word in bold and the other in italic.
– Highlight specific words in a different font to add emphasis.
– Choose a handwritten font to mimic your own handwriting. Or, better yet, have a custom font designed for you by Darcy!
– Choose a font that goes with the theme of your page. Doing a Halloween page? Choose a ‘spooky’ font to compliment your page.

The possibilities are endless! Think about typography the next time you are putting your page together.
