Spotlight Sunday- Rachel (Community Member Edition)

ss-header-2014

This week we’re spotlighting Rachel (rach3975)!

Rach3975_PicsOfMeI’m Rachel (rach3975). I live in Northern Virginia with my husband and 3 kids. Like many of you, I’m behind the camera a lot more than I’m in front of it. Taking selfies is the only way I make it into our albums on a consistent basis, so even though I always feel a little silly doing it I make sure to take them. (We won’t discuss how many shots I need to take to get a decent one–there’s a reason I only take them when no one else is around!)

We don’t take family photos often since DH and the kids don’t like posing for photos (I know, right?), but I had a relative take this one of the 5 of us at my brother’s wedding last fall.
We live 6+ hours from family, but we’re lucky to still see them relatively often. We also take our summer vacation together, and my favorite souvenir is the annual family photo we take. We use a low tech prop-the-cameras-on-a-table approach, but it works for us!

My layouts are paper-inspired and most have solid or lightly patterned backgrounds. I started scrapping as a way to pair stories with our photos, so I love journaling. This is my second year doing Project Life, and my favorite thing about it is having a place for all those stories and quotes that I’d never get around to scrapping an individual layout for. Because my PL pages tend to be so full, lately I’ve been drawn to simpler pages with more white space for my non-PL layouts.

This is even harder than choosing my favorite layout!
Straight Up by Melissa Bennett-My oldest son is 11, and he’s always been vocal about not wanting flowers or “girl colors” on his pages. If I had to choose just 1 kit to scrap him with, this would be the one! He and I both love the pages I’ve made with it.
Memorable: Birthday by KCB and Zoe Pearn-I love the colors and woods in this kit. I always put off scrapping birthdays because there are so many photos to deal with, so a birthday kit that makes me want to get those pages scrapped is a must have.
365 Unscripted, Stitched Grids by Traci Reed-I have most of the template packs in Traci’s Stitched Grids series, and they’re the only product that is on every one of my 2013 and 2014 PL layouts and will be on my 2015 pages, too.
Pocket Life: September kit by Traci Reed-When I need to catch up on PL, the quickest way for me to do it is to use a dedicated pocket scrapping product like Traci’s Pocket Life line. I like to make my own mini-collection using the kit, the 3×4 journalers, and the square cards.

I live in a suburb of Washington, DC. We’re close enough for my husband to commute in and for us to have all the benefits of living in a metropolitan area, but we also have gorgeous parks and lots of trees. All of these photos were taken within 10 minutes of our house.

Kindle Touch-I adore my Kindle. It has text to speech, which means that I can listen to books while I scrap, wash dishes, fold laundry, and wait in the pick up line at school. (Given how many hours a day I spend on those activities, I don’t want to imagine life without my Kindle!)
My camera-I moved from a point and shoot to a mirrorless camera (Olympus E-PM1) about 2 years ago. Love it!
Coffee-Chocolate flavored coffee from Target with milk, a bit of cocoa, and sugar free coffee syrup in a non-spill travel mug. Yum!
My planner-aka my lifeline. I originally had plans to decorate it every week, but just getting everything written in and checked off makes me happy.
Thanks for reading!
